EASKEY/ ENNISC. 1- 15 OWENMORE GAELS 0- 10 EASKEY/ ENNISCRONE/ KILGLASS are the Minor A Championship winners thanks to a 1- 15 to 0- 10 win over Owenmore Gaels at Markievicz Park on Sunday afternoon.

The sides were level at 0- 04 to 0- 04 at half- time, but the West Sligo men powered on in the second- half to claim a victory.

Easkey, who had the small benefit of the breeze in the first- half, probably didn’t make use of their advantage, as they struggled to get a foothold in the game.

They did go a point up after 3 minutes through Ciaran O’Dowd, but two wides prior to that may have dented confidence slightly.

Brian Mahon levelled the scoring. Easkey hit two further wides before they got on the scoresheet once again, their second point of the day coming from Joe McHugh.

Ryan Phillips levelled the scoring one again after 11 minutes.

Owenmore Gaels found themselves in heaps of possession, but they were struggling to hit the target.

In a period of four minutes, they hit three wides, with Philips’ seeing one shot hitting the post and another being saved by goalkeeper Shane Kilgallon. Eventually, Gaels hit their third point of the day through Philips, with McHugh hitting over to level matters one again. Kevin Healy put Gaels ahead before captain Philips missed a glorious opportunity to give his side a goal, just hitting the post.

Sitting level at four points apiece at the half way mark, this game looked as if it could very well have been headed for extra- game, with little separating the two sides.

Philips and Healy hit over almost immediately after the restart, but the West Sligo were yet to really get going.

Missing a number of goal opportunities, they hit over three points before finally hitting the back of the net thanks to Joe McHugh whose composed finish showed just how confident Easkey/ Enniscrone/ Kilglass were.

The leaders then hit over six points unanswered, with Joe McHugh’s tally for the day now sitting at 1- 07. Gaels had it all to do, and mustered up a couple of points before the game’s end, with Philips and Ronan Sweeney hitting over, but it wasn’t enough to overcome this West Sligo side who made it 1- 15 to 0- 10 in the dying seconds of the game.
