Cleveragh astro league gets underway shortly

THE Co Sligo Cross Country Championsh­ips 2016 was held Sunday in Sligo Racecourse.

The U11 Girls started the day’s proceeding­s and Liadan Ruddy claimed first place with Caoimhe Morgan in third. In the U11 Boys it was a clean sweep of the prizes for Sligo AC with Hughie Doherty first, Finn Campbell second and Rufus Marshall third. Oisin Mullane and Pat Corcoran also ran well.

In the U12 Girls, Eva Griffin was first and was followed home by Una Griffin. Aimee Smith was fifth while Sophie Reynolds was sixth. In the U12 Boys, Joe Campbell was a credible third with John Corcoran fourth. Meanwhile Mathew Percy was eight while Cillian Langton was ninth and Eoin Mulligan eleventh.

Cliodhna Walsh won the U13 Girls with Caoimhe Connor third. Kayla McGowan, in fifth , and Cianna Ruddy, in sixth, also ran well. In the Boys race, Ross Doherty ran well to finish second with Conor Moystn sixth.

In the U14 Girls, Kayla Brehony was first to finish with Megan Kilcawley next. In the U14 Boys, Ciaran Kavanagh was first and Ignasi Rello second.

In the U17 Girls, Ailbhe Morgan was the winner, Eimear Joyce second and Tara Carty third. In the Boys race, Leo Doherty was the winner with Conor Melvin third and Michael Morgan fourth. Others who ran well were Cathal Corcoran in sixth, Jack Connor in eight, Dulta Mannion who was ninth, Jack Cawley finished tenth while Mark Kilcawley was in eleventh place. THE Blake McNasser, Perpetual Cup takes place at Hazelwood, Calry, Astro Pitch on Saturday 5th November from 3- 6pm.

The fundraiser is in aid of the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street.

The league is restricted to over 25s years and Sligo Leitrim Junior Soccer players who are over 35 years old may also play.

There is no registrati­on fee to enter a team in the league.

All games throughout the competitio­n will be played between 8- 10 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. The cost is € 70 per game. Anyone interested or looking for more informatio­n can get in touch with Declan Basquille on 0872950480.
