TOM ‘ CLICK’ BRENNAN R. I. P.

The recent death occurred of Tom ‘ Click’ Brennan, late of Teeling Street, Tubbercurry. In his 91st year, Tom was born in 1926 and reared on Teeling Street, and like a lot of his generation, emigrated to America in the late 1940s. Shortly after settling in New York, he married his sweetheart, Evelyn Hunt from Powellsboro in New York. They finished up living in New York for over 40 years before retiring back to Tubbercurry in the mid 1990s.

While in New York, Tom and Evelyn reared their three children, Eva, Maureen and Tom, and got on with work and living. Tom worked mainly in the meat and butchery business in a number of large New York stores, following in the meat business of his late father the legendary Tom ‘ Click’ senior.

Tom was a great singer, and played semi- professionally in many of the big Irish American dance halls in New York in the 1950s and 60’ s. Often playing under the name the ‘ Sligo Cowboy’, his repertoire of Irish Ballets and American Folk and Western songs was immense and he could possibly have gone fully professional such was his natural talent and charm. While the family were growing up they were regular visitors back home to Tubbercurry throughout the 1960s, 70’ s and 80’ s while parents and siblings were alive in Ireland.

After retiring back to Ireland in the 1990s, Tom pursued his various hobbies, the main one being greyhound racing and coursing. He owned a number of top quality dogs including Clicks Dasher and Lils Glory which were among the tops dogs in Ireland 10- 15 years ago. He was a generous sponsor of Tubbercurry Coursing Club for many years and presented the Tom Click Brennan Cup many years ago in memory of his father.

Tom was pre- deceased by sisters Maisie and Maura, and Brothers Pat and Jim, all characters in their own right. Tom’s wife Evelyn died just 18 months ago and this was a big blow to him. The ‘ Click’ residence was always known as a rambling house where friends called for chats, and the front door was rarely locked.

Tom passed away peacefully and unexpectedly and many friends and the greyhound fraternity called to pay their respects.

His remains reposed at the Morahan funeral home and burial took place in Rhue Cemetery. Tom is survived by his daughter’s Eva and Maureen, son Tom, in- laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, Doris and Joanie, nephews, nieces, good neighbours and many friends, All to whom sympathy is extended. May he rest in peace.
