Council gives go ahead for improvement work
SLIGO County Council is set to carry out improvement works on the busy footpath stretching from the primary school to Colaiste Muire it announced during the week.
The footpath is busy with students throughout the day and it is also regularly used by walkers in the evening.
The footpath runs beside a busy section of road leading into the town.
It had been in need of works to be carried out and the council’s Engineering staff have said they are set to improve the footpath in the near future.
Local councillor for the area, Dara Mulvey, has welcomed the news.
He added: “This is positive that Ballymote Town will soon receive footpath improvement works.
“These are on the stretch from the Scoil Muire National School towards Colaiste Muire Secondry School.
“It was important to get these works carried out as this stretch of footpath is in a very busy area.
“It is being used regularly with school and evening walkers.
“I want to compliment the Engineering and outdoor staff of Sligo County Council on their continued improvement works in the Ballymote area,” he added.
Cllr Mulvey said the council are carrying out various works in the Ballymote region which was positive to see.
He added the improvement works on the busy footpath are coming in time ahead of the winter spell.
“I was glad to hear from the council they are going to do this and praise the staff involved,” he added.
