Stars arrive to wow Sligo Live Festival fans
Some of the best live gigs to be played in the country this year will take place in front of Sligo audiences this weekend at the 12th annual Sligo Live Festival.
Some of the country’s biggest rock and folk groups will grace Sligo stages between this Wednesday and Sunday, including Mexican instrumentalists Rodrigo y Gabriela, the legendary Paul Brady, Tuam maestros The Saw Doctors, Dublin rock band Little Green Cars, folk group Lynched and Sara Watkins and the trad trio of Máirtín O’Connor, Cathal Hayden and Seamie O’Dowd with special guests Rant.
Other acts include Orchid Collective who will support The Saw Doctors on Sunday 30th October.
Apart from the headline acts in the IT and the Hawk’s Well Theatre, there are two other aspects of the Sligo Live Festival.
A ‘ Festival Club’ will play out over three stages at the Riverside Hotel each night.
The Club will feature three rooms of music: The Main Stage with the headline artists, the Acoustic Stage which gives an intimate flavour of the festival, hosting short sets from a selec- tion of festival artists who have played other Sligo Live festival venues earlier; and the Trad Session Bar where top trad musicians play together in an electric festival atmosphere.
It will feature local musician Kieran Quinn and Seamie O’Dowd on Friday 28th October, King Kong Company on Saturday 29th October and Chris Meehan and His Redneck Friends on Sunday 30th October.
‘ Arrivals’ is a free programme strand that introduces emerging artists to a wider audience and will see musicians playing at several local cafés.
The Fiddler of Dooney Trad competition also takes place over the weekend.
