Designers let their creative juices flow at Design Week
SLIGO Design week is well underway with workshops, talks and exhibitions galore.
Running from the 7th to the 13th of November Design week is in its second year here in Sligo.
A national initiative the event explores design as a catalyst for innovation; linking creativity with enterprise and using technology to enhance your business, design week has something that can appeal to a wide range of people. Kicking off on Monday was a workshop on using Instagram in your creative business with Claire Ann from Claire Ann digital.
Claire has been working in the craft and design community for a number of years and with her ability for all things digital she showed the class how to navigate Instagram and create an image feed not only that promotes work but also the ethos of your business stands out.
Other events include talks from design entrepreneurs from Sligo based jewellery designer and proprietor of the The Cat & The Moon shop Martina Hamilton, Woodturner and Chair of Made in Sligo Craft Network Matt Jones, Tara McGowan of Cait + I, Ashleigh Smith of The Atlantic Equipment Project, and DJ- turned- jeweller Jenny Houston, and emerging designer Tish Carroll of Mother Says.
To round up design Week a real treat for fans of film, theatre and design, the Hawk’s Well will host Frank Conway; an internationally regarded designer. In his extensive career he has contributed greatly to our understanding of modern design. He will be joined by his lifelong friend Terence Herron to chat about his life and work on Sunday the 13th of Nov.
Across the week a series of design talks, workshops and networking opportunities will bring together the design community from across numerous sectors – educators and researchers, designer- makers, retail, policy makers and more.
