Teens got talent show will raise funds for charity

SLIGO STUDENTS HOST TEENS GOT TALENT EVENT FOR TWO CHARITIES

- By SINEAD HEALY

ENTHUSIASTIC students from Sligo IT are hosting an event in aid of Mental Health Ireland and Family Careers Ireland.

Kyle Walsh, Philip Murphy and Sorcha Savage are organizing a Teens Got talent competition on Thursday the 24th Nov at 8pm in the Radisson Blu Hotel sponsored by Supermacs Sligo. “The reason we chose these charities is because we find that Mental Health is a big issue among teenagers today and not only do we want to fundraise for this event, we also want to raise awareness that Mental Health is a big issue.” added Kyle.

“Family carers Ireland also provide support for young carers who are caring for family members.

“To date there is 57000 young carers under the age of 18. Carers provide these young carers with school support, online support, training, information and carer groups.

“This goes also as an unrecognized problem in the world today.” added Kyle.

Kyle and Philip are also involved in setting up a music club for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 18 to boost their confidence and to provide a positive environment for them to play their music and perform.

This club in now running into its fourth year and it has held two big concerts in their community which raised thousands of euros for local charities. Growing up in Sligo the three students found that apart from sports there was not a lot to. They spent their teenage years in Foroige and they believed it gave a positive effect among teenagers and they wanted to return the favour by hosting their own talent competition.

“We have seen teenagers grow and become more confident through their talents and we feel if we can provide a place for them to show off their talent and also fundraise for two great causes at the same time it would be brilliant for Sligo.” added Kyle. Guest judges on the night are Voice of Ireland star Kelesa Mulchay who reached the final of the competition last year and was runner up, Keith O’Donnell, Sarah Burns and Johnathan carter. The audience will also be able to vote on the night. MC on the night is Jason Mills and music by Deja Groove.
