CHRISTMAS is just around the corner and already there are signs of the festive season popping up all over the place.

One of the local highlights on the festive calender is the annual Christmas market in Strandhill which is now in its third year.

Up to 20,000 people are expected to visit the Christmas celebratio­ns at Strandhill People’s Market from December 2nd to 23rd.

Artisan food and craft producers from all over the west will descend on the village for the festive markets in Hangar 1 at Sligo Airport.

Following on from last year’s success, the SPM team have added new dates and new attraction­s making it one of the biggest markets along the Wild Atlantic Way this Christmas.

Organiser Allan Mulrooney is really looking forward to this year and says: “The hugely popular night markets are making a return and will be opening from 6pm - 10pm every Friday in December while the day markets will wrun every Saturday and Sunday from 11- 4pm.”

Allan also explains that Christmas week will see two night markets on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd of December.

“This will give people traveling home for the festive period a chance to soak up some Christmas magic and enjoy the company of loved ones in a unique setting,”setting ” he says.says

With a focus on supporting Irish businesses, traders, craftspeop­le, producers and charities, the SPM Christmas markets will offer national and internatio­nal visitors a chance to purchase high quality gifts and indulge in one of the many hearty food dishes on offer.

The market has already proven to have had a significan­tsi i economic impact on the surroundin­gsu u area, creating employment, generating visitor spend and making a substantia­l contributi­on to theth h winter economy in Sligo.

“We’re building up to our busiest ChristmasC­h yet,” said Kieran Mulrooney y one of the founders of SPM.

“We’ve increased our number of datesda this year due to the demand fromr stallholde­rs and customers alike.

“We are really excited by the variety of stalls taking part and we believe thath SPM will meet all your shopping needsnen this Christmas.” he added.
