“IT’S a walk- in opportunity for two full- time jobs.”

These are the words of Ross Hennessy of Iona Herbal – a herbal medicine farm in Cliffoney which is up for sale along with a beautiful thatched family cottage.

The business lies on three acres of organic land which includes two polytunnels covering 100m2 and one shade polytunnel covering 90m2.

More than an acre of their holding is set with herbs, a crop that is becoming more valuable each year as more people become interested in the alternative to regular medicine to cure many ailments such as insomnia, nervous disorders, digestive/ respiratory conditions, fatigue, and high blood pressure/ cholesterol.

These crops are at different stages of growth, with one expected to come in line this year and even doubling over the coming years. s. According to Ross, this is a unique opportunity to not only live, but work in one of the most scenic parts of the country.

“It’s a new opportunity for Irish farmers in Ireland. I believe the whole industry is at an early stage in Ireland, though it’s a lot more advanced in the UK and the US. There is definitely a huge market and a lot of different areas qualified herbalists can go into. It took us about four years to set everything up but everything is now at a point of production.”

This is the only herbal medicine processing facility in the country. The whole fafa cility is custom built to EU GPM standards which is specifically aimed at processing medicinal plants. Purchase of the facility includes all stock. An out- building built in 2006, which is currently being used as a clinic, also comes with the property with oil fired central heating.

The cottage, built in 1985, is spa- cious cious and has two beds, beds two large south facing conservatories and a solid fuel stove. Its kitchen is newly fitted and each bedroom features fitted wardrobes. Since the business was established four years ago, vast investment has been put into its growth. Interested buyers must have horticultural experience, or experience with herbal medicine or pharmaceutical production.

Full consultancy and hand over information will be offered on purchase and continued consultancy is available after sale. Ross said that by buying the land, you are walking into two full- time jobs with opportunities to expand and employ more people.“You are getting the property and a herbal medicine company, and the fact that it is the only processing facility of its kind in the country makes it very unique.”

The property is at Carnduff, Cliffoney and is located just ten minutes from Bundoran and 20 minutes from Sligo town. Ross and his wife Marina are selling the facility to be closer to their families in Tipperary and Dublin.

Those interested can contact Ross on 087 6272633 to negotiate a price.
