WESTERN DRAMA FESTIVAL
The annual festival of One- act plays organised by the Western Drama Festival runs in St Brigid’s Hall Theatre at 8 p. m. from Thursday, November 17, to Saturday, November 19. The organisers have selected an excellent programme of plays for this festival, and are delighted that once again the top groups in the country are travelling west to entertain us.
This is a fantastic event on the festival circuit, much loved by audiences. There is an amazing mix of plays being performed in the festival, so much to look forward to, including comedy and interesting dramas. This year due to demand by groups to enter our festival, there is an additional matinee performance on the Saturday at 3 p. m.
A special welcome Ballina Dramatic Society who will perform ‘ Lone Star’ and Parke Drama Group who will perform the Galway Girl. Season ticket at just € 25 is brilliant value and is available to purchase in Killorans, Teeling St, Tubbercurry from November 4, ( Booking for the festival Phone 071 9185679).
Mr Walker Ewart who has an excellent reputation as an Adjudicator both nationally and in the UK will judge this year’s plays. Walker has adjudicated at all- Ireland and UK Finals recently. This promises to be an outstanding festival and the organisers are looking forward to meeting you there to chat about the plays and enjoy the welcoming ambience
GARDA DAVID AN ALL STAR
Congratulations are extended to Garda David Clarke who was honoured last week by being named on the Gaelic Football All Stars team for 2016.
Garda Clarke is stationed in Tubbercurry Garda Station and can be seen regularly going quietly about his duties. He had a magnificent season in goals for the Mayo football team that were narrowly beaten in the all- Ireland replay, and was acknowledged by all expert commentators as keeping the Mayo team on the road for so long throughout the season. A controversial decision by management to replace David in the replay possibly cost Mayo the all- Ireland, but we will now never know.
Again well done David, and if you decide to stay permanently around Tubbercurry, you will be welcome to join our GAA club. You might even get a game.
