The Sligo Champion

Connollys win business person of the year

-

THE much anticipated ‘ Business Person of the Year Award’ at the Sligo Chamber of Commerce annual dinner is always one of the highlights of the night.

This year’s prestigious award went to Neil and Kevin Connolly, of Connolly Motor Group.

Patricia Molloy of SF Engineering was announced as the runner- up.

Mary Mitchell O’Connor, who was the Chamber’s special guest on the evening, told the large crowd that the government is committed to funding for road projects in Sligo.

She added that a € 40 million fund is currently in development for the Atlantic Economic Corridor.

Speaking about his visions for Sligo over the next ten years, Des Faul, President of Sligo Chamber of Commerce said that the Atlantic Economic Corridor is key to his hopes for the next decade in the North West.

“Sligo Chamber and other Chambers of Commerce in the West of Ireland, representing 2,500 companies employing over 75,000 people, are striving to realise the latent opportunity that resides within our region, not to address the East West balance though let’s not pretend that that imbalance does not exist, but rather to ensure that the West of Ireland can reach its economic potential in the national interest and that our children don’t have to continue in the long line of migrants and emigrant’s from our communities,” a passionate Des Faul said in front of the packed room at Castle Dargan.

In a hugely enjoyable evening at Castle Dargan, attendees were later treated to excellent live music from local band Back Water Jack following dinner.
