Ransboro NS plans

-

PLANS are in place for four new special education training classrooms at Ransboro NS in Knocknahur.

The school recently applied to Sligo County Council for permission to build the classrooms, as well as extensions to the north side of the school and playground.

The extension to the school would be 166m2 while 350m2 of additional playground space would be provided, if the plans are accepted. The application was issued by Paul McDaid of McCabe Architects on behalf of the Board of Management.

In a letter to the council he said: “The school at present has one makeshift classroom which has been constructed to one side of the main multipurpose room. This application wishes to rectify that situation whilst also providing a new modern entrance with administration and four new SET classrooms.”

They added that the appearance of the new extension would be contemporary in design and will also provide a symmetry to the front of the school with the back which was extending in 2014. “It is also proposed to extend the schoolyard in lieu of the area lost by the placement of the new extension and to provide new security fencing to the new play area,” he said.

The company also assures that the proposed extension would not interfere with a ring fort to the west of the school.

A decision is due by January 18, 2017.
