PRESCHOOLERS got to experience a little bit of college life thanks to St. Angela’s College Sligo, who organised a host of activities to mark College Awareness Week.

The third annual College Awareness Week ( CAW) took place from November 21st to 27th. This year’s line- up of events at St. Angela’s College included ‘ Third Level Taster Days’ for regional primary and secondary school students.

Primary school students were immersed in the campus life of St. Angela’s College while actively participating in art workshops exploring the theme of third level, taster subjects such as economics and workshops from the medical department from NUI Galway.

Secondary school students also enjoyed the benefits of study skills seminars, nutrition to support study seminars and mental resilience workshops.

Around the county, over 1,000 events took place. The Access Schools Programme in St. Angela’s College hosted a particularly unique event with pre- schoolers, ‘ Starting the Seeds Young’ which is an art and creative storytelling series of events for three and four year olds in Miss Rachel’s Montessori in Kevinsfort, Sligo.

The interactive fun art workshops included artistic expressions of themselves when they go to third level and making their own college ID and graduation hat.

There were outdoor activities too, such as ‘ Coastal Craze’, a science activity on Rosses Point Beach, where lecturers and staff explored seashore ecology with link secondary school students, identify flora and fauna and participate in a beach clean- up.

Ms. Carol Carty, Access Schools Programme Co- ordinator said, “We are delighted to be part of a nationwide campaign to promote the importance of post- secondary education. There are lots of options out there and College Awareness Week encourages people of all ages to consider further education to be part of their future.” Pic:
