Sportsfile image of Markievicz Park in ‘ Season of Sundays’

-

FROM Dublin’s All- Ireland glory, to tears, triumphs and tired bodies, top images from the GAA’s 2016 season have been captured by photography agency Sportsfile in its popular book, A Season of Sundays collection.

The images capture perfectly the essence of GAA, not only from a player’s or manager’s perspective; young supporters, umpires, spectators right up to the mascots and the kit man are portrayed.

Among the shortlisted 59 images is one taken earlier this summer in Markievicz Park.

Sportsfile photograper Ray Ryan was on duty when Sligo hosted Leitrim in the Qualifiers.

His image of three young football fans, waiting to get their time in the limelight during half- time, made the cut.

Titled ‘ Ensnared, for the moment’, the picture shows three youngsters from Dromahair Luke Cranley, Alex Leyden and Darren Kelly, awaiting their turn to display their football skills at half- time.

A Season of Sundays is now in its 20th edition and has become a GAA tradition, bringing breathtaking images from throughout the year to worldwide acclaim.

Ray McManus, who founded Sportsfile in the 1980s, said: “It’s hard to believe this year marks our 20th collection. Since 1996 we have captured thousands of iconic images and I’m proud of every book. “Once again I would like to thank my highly skilled team as we look forward to our 21st next year.”
