FBD fixtures for 2017 are revealed

SLIGO will be up against Galway in the first round of the FBD Insureance League which is on in early 2017.

The fixtures for the Winter contest, which is a warm- up of sorts ahead of the Allianz League which follows suit, is on in January.

IT Sligo is also taking part in the competitio­n which sees counties from Connacht take on each other in a League format.

The first round of the games are being held on January 8th.

Sligo are scheduled to take on the Tribesmen in a home fixture on that date.

IT Sligo are away to Roscommon on the same date, while Leitrim host GMIT and NUIG are away to Mayo.

The second round of the competitio­n is being played a week later, on January 15th.

Niall Carew’s Sligo charges will be taking on GMIT again in a home fixture.

Leitrim are playing Galway at home. IT Sligo are away to Mayo in the other group, while NUIG host Roscommon.

The third and final round is taking place the following week, when Sligo face Leitrim and IT Sligo are home to NUIG.

Galway face GMIT, while Roscommon will do battle with Mayo.

The final of the FBD Insurance League is scheduled for January 29th.

The top team in each section qualifies for the final.

Sligo GAA is holding its annual convention on Wednesday, December 7th.

It is being held in the Aurivo Auditorium in IT Sligo.

Clubs are being advised that the Convention will be held on the evening of Wednesday, December 7th next.

Registrati­on on the night is from 7pm. Motions that will be discussed are the following:

Motion 1: That three teams be promoted from the junior and intermedia­te championsh­ip for 2017.

Motion 2: All county board meetings to start punctually at 8.30Pm on the first Wednesday of every month.

Motion 3: That an audit of club grounds be conducted on or before May 1st 201.

Motion 4: That Convention encourage clubs to amalgamate for the Senior Championsh­ip and underage competitio­ns in order to improve standards.

Motion 5: That all clubs provide a record of their history to an runaí chontae for inclusion in the GAA museum in Croke Park.

Motion 6: Easkey GAA propose a motion to change the methodolog­y of payment of the Club Sligo levy to the County Board. They propose that Club Contribute to the County Board on a pro rata basis based on the number of adult members in the previous year. As a small rural club, they are finding it increasing­ly difficult to fund this yearly charge, they said, and are proposing a maximum contributi­on of 50 per adult member.

Motion 7: That the warm- up competitio­ns be played at the start of the playing season, with the group stages completed prior to the start of the Leagues.

Motion 8: That any tv rights deal with Sky Sports in the future must include free to air broadcast of national GAA games.

Motion 9: That clubs, the County Board and the local press plan a strategy to extend coverage on gaelic games.
