Success in Longford

THE busy swim season is up and running with 25 Sligo Swim Club members competing in Longford recently. They swam in 80 races and achieved 60 PBs and 16 podium places showcasing their talent. These impressive results started in the boys U11 with Ronan Kilcoyne dominating this age group to bring home four gold medals in 400IM, 100 Fly, 100 Freestyle and 100IM. Also in this age group, Max Hunter and Ambrose Bamber achieved great PBs. In the Girls 12- 13 age group Danielle Farrell achieved a gold and two bronze medals in the 400IM, 100IM and 100 Freestyle respective­ly. Also swimming well in this age group were Alice McPartlan and Ella O’Donovan. Anthony Maher had a great day achieving a PB in the Boys’ 12- 13 100 Freestyle. Joshua Fortune broke the ‘ magical minute’ in the boys 14- 15 age group. He took gold in 400IM, 2nd in 100Fly and 3rd in 100IM. He was joined by Sean Keaney, Orin Mitchell, Patrick McPartlan and Eoghan Kearns who also displayed some impressive swimming throughout the day. Carrie McDaid achieved gold in 100IM in the extremely competitiv­e 14- 15 girls age group. Other great swims in this age group were achieved by Tara Walsh, Penny Lee, Marie Lyons, Rachael Martin and Liadon Hanley. Ronan Anderson took one gold and two bronze medals in Boys 16 and over age group. Owen Eglinton achieved an excellent bronze in the 400IM with both Dylan Martin and Eoin Anderson enjoying good swims as well. Ciara Lynch was the sole entrant in girls 16 and over and had a good day’s swimming. Coach Eduardo Santos, team manager said it was a successful day all round.
