Last gasp goal denies Cash Savers points

-

A late goal denied Cash Savers Calcio a vital three points in the Sligo Rovers Astro league on Wednesday last. In what was very difficult conditions for both sides, Sheffield Thursday were looking to close the gap on the league leaders Ejs, while Cash Savers were looking to consolidate their place in the top six, before the league splits in January.

Both sides set a high pace from the start but neither could find the back of the net before the half time interval. The second half proved similar to the first with both sides guilty of missing some guilt edged opportunities, with the game becoming quite open. Ten minutes from time, James Coggins struck a spectacular effort on target which crept in after hitting the underside of the crossbar.

Cash Savers spurned some unbelievable chances to double their lead and secure the three points and they would go on to regret those missed chances five minutes from time. Aidan O’Brien struck gold for Sheffield Thursday as his long range effort curled into the top right corner of the goals to earn his side a share of the spoils.

Ballyshannon continued their excellent recent run of form after defeating Borussia Teeth on a score line of 4- 1. Borussia were guilty of missing some great chances while they were in the game and they would live to regret it as Ballyshannon were rampant thereafter. Cian Dolan, Packie Hill and a brace from the league’s top goalscorer Seamus Kane ensured the Donegal men collect the three points while inflicting an eighth league defeat for Borussia in nine games. Jamie McGoldrick got a consolation goal for Borussia Teeth with a free tick in injury time. EJS continued their push for the top of the league after defeating the Bald Eagles 4- 1 on Tuesday last. Goals from David Blain and a hat- trick from Lee Marshall ensured EJs collected the three points at relative ease. Noel McAleish got the goal for the Bald Eagles.

The Adelaide Casino and The Belfry played out a frantic 0- 0 draw, the first scoreless draw of the season. Despite having the best chances, the Adelaide Casino could not find a way past the in- form Belfry goalkeeper Ciaran Carty.

The Sally Gardens returned to the top of the league standings after defeating Strand Celtic by 3- 1. This defeat ended Strand’s unbeaten start to the season. Jack Maye had put the youthful Stand side in front after ten minutes, however the physical Sally Gardens side battled their way back into the game and man- of- the- match Damian Fallon notched a hat trick, of which two of the goals are certainly contenders for the goal of the season award. Two of the strikes were from thirty yards out, giving Strand’s goalkeeper, Oisin Conway, no chance in goal. GSS recorded their first win since October after an impressive display over high flying Forrest Celtic. In doing so, they also kept their first clean sheet of the season.

Conor Jordon got both goals for the boys in blue who will be looking to build on this positive result before the league breaks up for the Christmas.
