CHRISTMAS BAZAAR

The Ballymote North West Hospice Committee will host their annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday evening, December 3, in the Loftus Hall commencing at 5.30 p. m. Our events will include ticket sales with great prizes to be won from our stage prizes, a cake sale, bric- a- brac and maybe Santa might drop by.

Anyone out there who could support us by baking some cakes, buns or other pieces of confection­ary for our cake sale or maybe donating some unwanted present or gift would be most appreciate­d. Any gifts or donation can be left in at Jennifer’s, The Corran Restaurant. We will be looking forward to seeing you there.

The local members of Concern in Ballymote wish to thank you all very sincerely for your very generous donations at their Church gate collection last weekend. The total of the donations was € 614. This will be of very great benefit to the Poorest of the poor in Third World countries where Concern workers are assisting them on your behalf.

NIGHT OF MUSIC

A night of music and song in memory of Dan Healy will be held in Durkins in Ballinacar­row on Friday, December 2. Sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of James Healy, Blackrock formerly Rathdooney, Pádraig Healy, Cuan Iosa, John Cunnane, Carrickban­agher, Kathleen Kielty, O’Connell Street whose deaths occurred recently. Ballymote Community Library is open this week from today, Tuesday, November 29, to Saturday, December 3. Closed next week.

SANTA DASH 5K

Run for a good Claus. in aid of Louise Martin on December 10 at midday. Registrati­on will take place in the Blue Lagoon on Friday night from 5.30 p. m. to 7 p. m. and Saturday morning from 10.30 a. m. There will be a fantastic raffle afterwards with some amazing prizes. It’s a great day for all the family to run or walk together. There will be a prize for the best dressed too.

TOWN AWARDS

The judging of Boyle’s entry in the Bank of Ireland Enterprise Town awards will take place on Wednesday, November 30. Three independen­t judges will visit the town on the day and meet with the applicants – Boyle Town Team and Boyle Chamber of Commerce – along with members of the community.

After a welcoming address they will be brought on an 80 minute tour of the town to see the various enterprise­s and locations referred to in the applicatio­n. Marks in the competitio­n will be awarded on innovation, leadership, sustainabi­lity, partnershi­p, social inclusion, pro activity and a sense of energy.

The county winners, who can use the title ‘ Roscommon’s Most Enterprisi­ng Town’ will be announced at an event in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon on December 7. The national winner will also be announced on the night.

Chairman of Boyle Town Team Brian Nerney paid credit to the team members who have been working tirelessly on this project for the last few weeks. He said the winning of the award would be a brilliant marketing tool for the town and a positive endorsemen­t of the work been undertaken by so many at present and in previous years. He also stressed the importance of having as many local businesses, clubs, organisati­ons and societies represente­d in King House on judging day.

SEMINAR IN KING HOUSE

A seminar titled Radical Actions will take place in King House on Friday, December 2, commencing at 11 a. m. Curated by Boyle resident Linda Shevlin, Radical Actions is a three part internatio­nal commemorat­ion project.

It takes the form of an exhibition of Irish artists Kennedy Browne ( Gareth Kennedy/ Sarah Browne), Duncan Campbell, Jesse Jones and Séamus Nolan at RMIT Galleries, Melbourne Australia; the exhibition Bernadette by Duncan Campbell at Roscommon Arts Centre and the final instalment will take the form of a seminar in the historic setting of King House, Boyle.

This seminar will look at the legacy of revolution and activism in Ireland and the artists’ role in shaping future states with speakers including Professor Luke Gibbons, artists Sarah Browne, Jesse Jones, Gareth Kennedy and Séamus Nolan, film maker Treasa O’Brien and Paula Geraghty.

ROSCOMMON AIRS

The rich cultural heritage of County Roscommon will be celebrated with a night of Traditiona­l Music, song and dance performed by some of the finest musicians, singers and dancers from around the county on Saturday, December 3, in St Joseph’s hall, Boyle.

The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be the legendary Martin Donohoe presenter of Shannonsid­e and Northern Sounds popular radio show ‘ The Wind That Blows’. Donations will be made from the proceeds of the night to the Tommy Simon Fund and Úna Bhán Tourism. As a sign of the significan­ce of this event the Irish Traditiona­l Music Archive of Ireland will be present to record this historic night.

Performers include a mix of the counties internatio­nally recognised musicians Cathy Jordan of Dervis fame, Alan Kelly and John Carty, as well as national treasures such as Paddy Ryan, John Wynne, Patsy Hanly, Tommy Guihan, John Carlos, Francis Gaffney, The Moylurg Ceili Band, The South Roscommon Singers and many more.

CURLEW WALKERS CLUB

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

With a little over six weeks till Christmas and four weeks till the annual Boyle Christmas Fair, thoughts turn to the erection of the town’s Christmas lights. Following a meeting on Wednesday night it was agreed to have the lights erected over three evenings next week Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Meeting on the Crescent, work will commence from 7 p. m. till 11 p. m. If you can assist on any of the three nights, please contact Stephen Bohan at 071 9662552. The more people that help out the easier the workload.
