Tubber impresses, winning first runner up at Pride of Place

Tubbercurr­y town secured the first runner- up award in the 1000- 2000 population category at the Pride of Place Awards 2016.

The Pride of Place Gala was hosted by Belfast city council and took place in the Waterfront Hotel in Belfast on Saturday the 26th Nov where approximat­ely 1000 people from across Ireland gathered to hear the winners of the 2016 competitio­n.

The Pride of place competitio­n is hosted by Cooperatio­n Ireland under is Local Authority Programme which highlights their commitment to supporting active community groups to undertake initiative­s to improve their communitie­s and regions.

Louise Kilbane, President of Tubbercurr­y Chamber of Commerce said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won first runner up prize. It is a great achievemen­t for the community and it is a testament to them and all the volunteers.

“It cements all the good work that has been started and it gives the community a lift.

“It’s great to be given recognitio­n by a National all Ireland competitio­n.”

In August of this year, Tubbercurr­y won the selection of the Pride of Place awards by Sligo County Council for their continuous efforts in fighting back and bringing the town to its former glory.

A panel of highly experience judges visited Tubbercurr­y in August as part of the all- island judging process where the town competed against other towns from around the county in the category of 1000- 2000 population.

Tubbercurr­y Chamber of Commerce lead the group on the project and with the winning they were able to fund a short 90 second promotiona­l video of Tubbercurr­y which can be used to promote the town.
