WILLOUGHBY BROTHERS

Lissadell Church is hosting Internatio­nal singing sensations the Willoughby Brothers in a Christmas Concert on Friday, Dec 16th. Richie, Des, Sammy, Robbie, Johnny and Jerome, hail from Coolboy, Co. Wicklow, six brothers with just over a decade between the eldest and youngest. Their passion for singing and performing, combined with a genuine closeness, stems from a childhood filled with music and singing, a love they carried with them through the years into adulthood. Credit must be given to their father Richard, and their late mother Breda, for nurturing and encouragin­g these gifts from an early age and introducin­g them to a world of music and entertainm­ent. They are currently making a big impression on the national and internatio­nal music scene with appearance­s on a number of TV and Radio shows. REELING IN THE YEARS SHOWBAND

The Ronan Collins Showband Show, Reeling In the Showband Years, has been a smash hit for the past six years, and it returns once again to the Hawkswell Theatre on January 1st 2017 with what could be the very best line up yet. RTE’s Ronan Collins is host and compere for the evening and will be joined by Red Hurley a living Legend of showbiz for the past 40 years, Gina from The Champions: Quite simply the biggest female vocalist of the Showband era, Ronan Collins sings his renowned tributes to the great Joe Dolan and more, Gregory from The Cadets, the great brother and sister combo from one of the oldest musical families in Ireland; Keith and Lorraine McDonald and finally one of the greatest show bands of them all The Conquerors.

The show’s exciting finale is an all cast salute to the showband era which will send you home with great memories of a wonderful and never to be repeated time in Irish popular music. THE MACALLA SUITE

Composed by Michael Rooney, The Macalla Suite comes to The Hawk’s Well on Friday the 30th of December for its final concert of 2016 having performed for over 11,000 people over the past six months, following a sell- out Easter Tour. It is a suite of music, song and narration, commemorat­ing Easter 1916, the history of Ireland leading up to those events and developmen­t in the 100 years since. The suite was commission­ed as a central part of Ireland’s commemorat­ion of the 1916 Rising Centenary.

It is performed by The Macalla Orchestra which includes 50 of some of Ireland’s finest classical and traditiona­l musicians. The orchestra just recorded a CD of suite, which will be released in mid- December.

The suite was performed at the RDS on Easter Saturday at the State Event for the Relatives of 1916 and toured to the Barbican in London, in conjunctio­n with Culture Ireland, followed by a sold out nationwide tour including the National Opera House, Drogheda, Cork City Hall, Derry, Sligo, Limerick and Monaghan. RECONSTRUC­TING MEMORY

The Model is pleased to present an exhibition of newly commission­ed work that marks a major turning point in the practice of Irish artist Cléa van der Grijn. It will open on Sat 17th of December. Reconstruc­ting Memory is a multifacet­ed experienti­al and textured exploratio­n of the societal disparitie­s in approaches to death in Mexican and Irish cultures. Film, photograph­y, sculpture, painting and installati­on are all sensitivel­y utilised in this rich, beautiful and considered exhibition. Through her artistic practice van der Grijn seeks to unravel the rational, social and emotional circumstan­ces that are constructe­d around death; and through the use of multiple mediums, she unpicks the complexiti­es of the culture of death and reconstruc­ted memory. CINDER AND HER FELLAS

The Calry Drama Group are proud to present their adaptation of the Classic Cinderella: ‘ Cinder and her Fellas’.
