Lip sync battle draws a big crowd, raising funds for club

-

Ballymote Celtic’s lip sync battle, which took place last weekend in the Coach House Hotel, was a vital fundraiser for the club, attracting a huge crowd of interested locals.

The event, which tasked 12 willing volunteers to battle it out, was the first of its kind in the town and was a major success.

“It was a great night.,” said Ballymote Celtic’s Mark Irwin, one of the event organisers.

“There was a massive crowd at it so we were delighted with that.

“This is a type of thing that we had never done before. Like a Lip Sync battle hadn’t been done here before so it was a first, and it was probably a bit of a risk doing it. We had no problem getting people to do it either.”

Well known faces such as Councillor Keith Henry, Shane Scully and more featured in the event.

“We called in a few favours from a few people but everyone was willing to do it.

“We wanted to get different people from different groups to attract a big crowd.

“People had no problem coming in for rehearsals.”

The event served as a vital fundraiser for the club, who organise at least one major fundraiser a year to fund the club’s operations.

“We raised a lot of money for the club which was obviously the aim of the event. It can be hard getting money in for small clubs. This is probably our main fundraiser for the year.

“You’d have to have at least one big one a year for the club. We usually have a theme each year so we usually go with what’s popular so we chose the lip sync battle because they’re popular at the minute.”
