PANTO FUN AT THE ART DECO
A big crowd for a big production.
This weekend saw fans turn out in their droves to see the Corran Players perform their first pantomime in three years.
Their adaption of ‘ Puss in Boots’ sold out four consecutive performances, including Friday night’s opener and Sunday’s matinee at the Art Deco Theatre in Ballymote.
Panto Director, Amanda Martin, said those in attendance witnessed a “massive production” with “lots of laughter”.
She said: “There were a lot of twists and turns and you could see in the reactions of the crowds that they were captivated by the storyline.
“There was lots of singing and dancing, with really a mixture of everything.
“It took a lot of hard work to put on the show but the dedication of everyone involved paid off through their performances. “There was big talent on show for sure.” The storyline was much the same as the iconic fairytale but with extra comedy thrown in, and was performed by 25 players.
Amanda said that work began in September when she started going through scripts, but when Puss in Boots revealed itself it was a no- brainer due to its entertainment factor and hilarity.
“It was by far the funniest pantomime I read. I was in tears laughing at it.” As for the fans? “They were thrilled and had been very supportive even through our rehearsals.
“They were delighted to see a pantomime back and especially in this great theatre which is an asset to the town.
“It really shows in the fact that it was a sellout.”
It was certainly a show not to be missed, as illustrated by the huge crowds.
The Corran Players has been in existence for the past 20 years with its Christmas- time pantomimes proving a big hit throughout that time.
