SPEEDING TRAFFIC

Concern has been expressed in recent times by many locals about speeding traffic on the Circular road at the back of Teeling Street, Tubbercurry. This stretch of road from St George’s Church to the new traffic lights on the Ballina road junction has become busier over the last six months, as the flow of traffic for through traffic has increased due to works at junctions.

This knock on effect is more traffic. Combine this with car parks and business customers along this stretch of road, and it is a recipe for disaster, and an accident waiting to happen. In addition there is a pedestrian crossing at the rear of SuperValu and many pedestrians report ‘ near misses’ with speeding cars.

Correspondence will be going to the National Roads Authority and Sligo County Council to take necessary actions to slow this traffic down. A menu of actions including Speed Cameras, Continual White Lines and Signage need to be considered.
