Ursuline students publish Junior Cert study guide
STUDENTS from Sligo have reached the finals of the National Student Enterprise Awards for their study guide Funteach.
Erin Breheny and Eimear Kearins ( pictured right) have devised this study guide to help students achieve the highest grades in the Junior Cert Irish Exam.
Eimear explains: “Funteach is the Senior Category winner of the Student Enterprise Awards here in Sligo, and we are now preparing for the National Finals in Croke Park on May 3rd.”
She continues: “Initially we thought about creating numerous ‘ Study Aids’ but we narrowed it down to Irish because it was the one we felt would capture the largest market, through the difficulties the majority of students face with the Irish exam.”
Erin says: “We identified a ready- made market, as the book is aimed at everybody preparing for the Irish Junior Certificate Exam. In our school alone there are over 350 eligible customers for Funteach, whether they are in First, Second or Third Year.” The innovative pair researched the psychological elements behind ways in which people obtain the most information while studying. Eimear says: “We scrutinised notes, corrected and perfected them, and added things we wished we had known ourselves for our own exam.
“We called on Irish teachers in our school to review these notes . We got the help of a graphic designer who made the book look very professional.”
Erin says: “Funteach adds something different to the market as all other study books are written by teachers. Funteach is selling at € 5.99. in Kate’s Kitchen, Sligo Credit Union and the Ursuline College and online via Instagram.
