Bag for Life is a one of a kind production for Hawk’s Well

-

A one of a kind psychological thriller production is coming to the Hawk’s Well Theatre as part of a nationwide tour.

Bag for Life is an exciting new play from Colin Bateman and will take place this Thursday the 20th of April at 8pm at the Hawk’s Well Theatre.

The show tells the tale of Karen, a young bored mother, who is out shopping when she runs into a figure from her past. Unable to place the person it dawns on her that this happy family man is none other than the ex- paramilitary who 22 years earlier murdered her brother. The play follows her journey as she struggles with obsession, dark thoughts, delusions, psychosis, bi- polar thoughts and desire for revenge all shot through Batemans trademark pitch black humor.

“There are a lot of different aspects to it,” explains Bateman, “It is quite a dark piece but it’s also very funny. It’s a thriller but it will also make you think. You’ll come out asking questions about how you would deal in certain situations.”

The approach towards the set design has created one of the most visually stunning plays in local theatre history: Karen’s journey is underlined by the presence of multiple suspended screens and using the latest the- atre technology these screens allow the audience an insight into the fragmented mind of the character while also watching her journey unfold.

Over 400 specially created videos, illustrations and animations were used in the creation of this stunning psychological mosaic. Director/ Producer Kieran Griffiths said Sligo audiences will be captivated by the ‘ awesome’ brand new technology involved in the set design: the first of its kind in Ireland.

“It is a ferocious episode in Karen’s life. Electric, Exciting, and Captivating. I think from its initial outing a lot of people are still talking about it and asking themselves questions.

“The technology is brand new and the biggest challenge has been fitting it into the different spaces and theatres while travelling, there’s never been a production like this before,” said Kieran. Receiving standing ovations from its initial release, Bag for Life will leave you laughing, crying all the while questioning has the capacity to violence gone?
