Colsh’s hard work pays off

-

SLIGO Rowing Club’s Brian Colsh was in top form at the recent Neptune Regatta, comfortably winning the J15 Single Sculls. With the experience of Lough Rynn Head under their belts, the young members of the club together with mentors Molua Donohoe, Tom Colsh and Ray Murtagh travelled to Islandbridge, Dublin to compete at the two- day event.

These are held over consecutive days on the same stretch of water on the River Liffey. Conor Whelehan rowed a great race in what was his second competitive outing, exhibiting brilliant potential while the commitment to training of the junior 15 quad paid off winning their heat comfortably. They unfortunately lost out to the eventual category winners by half a length. Andrew Waters, Killian McCarthy and Angus Carter can be particularly proud of their performance in this their first competitive season rowing as a crew together

The women’s Junior 16 double of Erin O’Connor and Neasa Henehan had a cracking first race winning their qualifying heat by half a length while just been beaten on the line in the semifinal which can be attributed no doubt to their tough qualifier. New comers Isabelle Waters, Mairead Kavanagh and Siofra Kelleher also put in strong performances which they can build upon as their first competitive season progresses.

The weekend however belonged to Brian Colsh who’s commitment to training both on land and water during the winter months paid dividends. Brian put in consistent strong solid performances for his heat, semi- final and final to win the J15 Single Sculls in a masterly comfortable fashion.
