CLOONACOOL

CONGRATULATIONS to CT Gaels Girls U- 14 Team who qualified on Saturday last for the national Feile Peil na Nog which will be held in Cavan/ Monaghan in June. OUR u/ 8s and u/ 10s had their first match of the season on Wednesday evening of last week. Well done to all who were involved in two very enjoyable games, and thanks to Calry St. Josephs for hosting both encounters. Training continues on Friday evening at 6.30 in the community park. OUR senior team suffered their first defeat of the league on Saturday evening last when going down to a strong Ballymote outfit by a 2 point margin in Corran Park. This was a hard fought encounter all the way to the final whistle where all the lads gave of their very best and is most encouraging as the team begins to blend together. Training continues on Tuesdays and Friday evenings during the coming weeks. CONGRATS to our own Lisa Maloney who won the Sligo rose of Tralee contest in recent weeks. Good luck to the Sligo senior team in the Connacht championship game against New York next week. SYMPATHY is extended to the family relatives and friends of the late Luke Gannon of Tubbercurry who went to his eternal reward last week. May he rest in peace.

ST FARNAN’S LADIES

THE U- 12 game against Eoghan Rua which was scheduled for last week was postponed. The side are due to play St. Nathy’s in Templeboy, this coming Thursday at 7pm. THE U- 14’ s will be hoping for their first win of the campaign when they host Geevagh this Tuesday, the 2nd also at 7pm. THE U- 16’ s played what was probably their best hours football of the year so far in defeating Drumcliffe / Rosses Point by 3- 11 to 1- 8 in Oxfield on Tuesday. The foundation for the win was laid in the first half when aided by a stiff breeze the side clocked up 1- 8 as against a single point from the home side. With the aid of the elements in the second period the home side rallied somewhat but the result was never in doubt. With a bye in this weeks final round the side must sit it out to see if they have succeeded in making it to the knockout stages of the competition. THE new format for Development coaching sessions for U- 8’ s and U- 10’ s got its first airing on Saturday last with players from Eoghan Rua and Ballisodare joining up with our own stars of the future in Templeboy. Coaches from the three clubs were involved and by all accounts a great day was had by all. The next session is fixed for three weeks time. REGISTRATION for the current year is now due and as a sizeable number of players have yet to register a second Registration evening will be held this Thursday, May 6th, between 7 and 8.30 pm in the clubhouse. A reminder that Gaelic4Mothers and Others, which the club ran successfully for a few years almost a decade ago is being revived. This programme is aimed at ladies whose days of playing football at a competitive level are behind them and it is open to anyone regardless of whether they have played a lot of, a bit off, or absolutely no football in the past. The emphasis is on fun and enjoyment whilst at the same time learning some of the skills of the game. A number of Blitzes are organised at Provincial and National level each year whilst there is also the possibility that a club can be selected to play in a series of exhibition games in Croke Park on All- Ireland Final Day. Registration and the first training session will be held from 8- 9 pm on Monday, May 15th, in the Community Park. FUNDRAISING WHILE the playing area is now complete, the club needs to raise € 75000 to bring our indoor astro turf complex to completion ( heating, electrics, toilets, dressing room, kitchen, meeting room etc.). We are currently at € 35400 and wish to thank all of those who have donated already for their fantastic generosity. Due to a significant amount of club members travelling to New York for next weekend’s Connacht Championship match, the draw for € 500 and € 1000 has been put back until Sunday, May 14th. THE club requires the generosity of the community: individuals, families and businesses, both at home and abroad to bring the project to a completion. As previously advertised, you can sponsor a brick at € 100, a block at € 250 or a wall at € 1500. There are teams in the various areas/ townlands to contact to donate, and there are also be weekly collection points held around the parish to facilitate people who wish to donate. This week on Monday ( April 24th) there will be a collection evening in Sheridan’s from 8.30pm to 10pm. You can also donate online at www. enniscronekilglassgaa. com under the Astro Turf PayPal link. Your support at this extraordinary time in the club’s history is greatly appreciated. INTERMEDIATE OUR intermediate team got their Division Three campaign back on track thanks to a 4- 9 to 0- 4 defeat of Eastern Harps at Quigabar last Sunday. In very difficult conditions, our lads led 2- 7 to 0- 2 and controlled proceedings well into the wind in the second half to end as winners. They have a break in competitive action for the next two weekends – training continues this week. MINOR THE Enniscrone- Kilglass/ Easkey minor team lost out to Eastern Harps, 4- 15 to 3- 13 last Thursday in Keash. After a very disappointing opening half our lads trailed 4- 11 to 1- 4, but a good comeback in the second half restored respectability and almost clinched a result. They play Ballymote/ Bunninadden this Tuesday evening at 7pm in Easkey. U- 16 OUR U- 16 boys lost to Calry/ St Joseph’s in Quigabar last Monday evening, 4- 11 to 0- 12 They have a break from competitive action this week. U- 14 OUR U- 14s play Coolera/ Strandhill in Ransboro next Friday evening at 7pm. U- 12 OUR U- 12s continued their good form in Division Two, picking up a third consecutive win last Tuesday evening thanks to a 0- 21 to 0- 8 defeat of St Farnan’s in Templeboy. The boys will look to make it four wins from four when they play Castleconnor in Quigabar on Tuesday week at 7pm. CONNACHT SFC BEST of luck to the Sligo senior footballers in their Connacht Championship quarter- final against New York next Sunday. A number of club members are travelling across the Atlantic this week to support the black and white – we hope you all enjoy the trip. BLOTTO THERE was no winner of last weekend’s blotto jackpot. Next Saturday’s jackpot is € 7500. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

ST MOLAISE GAELS

THE Club is in search of All Ireland honours this weekend as our Quiz Team of Tom Rodgers, Tommy Currid, Michael White and Declan Shelley represent Sligo in the Scor All Ireland finals in Belfast OUR Junior Ladies were beaten 3- 13 to 4- 07 by Owenmore Gaels in the League on Sunday morning last. Two brilliant goals from Breda Feeney and another from Catherine Hyndman saw Gaels lead by 3- 06 to 1- 08 at the interval. When Nicola Hoey added another three pointer early in the second period a great win for the Regina Feeney managed side looked likely. However the home side took advantage of a strong second half breeze to pick off scores and a goal from a twenty metre free in the 50th minute levelled the matchc and set up a tense finish. Unfortunately it was the home side who finished best and three unanswered points saw the win going to Owenmore Gaels. OUR senior men went down to a 2- 08 to 0- 13 defeat against a second placed Tubbercurry side at KIlcoyne Park on Saturday night last. The result was harsh on the Damien Kelly and Oisin Coyne managed side as they battled superbly to overcome the concession of two second half goals to level proceedings with a minute remaining. However with virtually the last kick of the game the home side pointed and Gaels didn’t have an opportunity to respond. Best wishes to Dara Elliott and James Brennan who both sustained injuries in the game and joined a lengthening injury list for the squad. There is a break in league activity now for a month so hopefully the injury situation will improve and the Panel can prepare for a successful summer ‘ s football. A busy week of underage football saw our U16 Boys pick up the points in the A League with a 2- 09 to 1- 08 win away to Curry. Tuesday evening and both our U12 Boys squads had good wins away to St John’s. Wednesday night saw Monsignor Hynes Park thronged as we hosted three U8 and two U10 fixtures against St Mary’s. The home side edged the games at U8 level while at U10 the visitors narrowly overcame the best efforts of our U9 and U10 Boys. On Thursday evening our MInor Boys played out a thrilling 2- 15 each draw at home to Ballymote/ Bunninadden while on Friday evening our U16 Girls were beaten by three points by Owenmore Gaels FIXTURES this week see our U12 Girls away to St Mary’s on Thursday 4th at 7.00pm while the same evening our MInor Boys are away to Curry at 7.00pm. Friday night sees the Clubs clash again at BOys U14 level in Curry with a 7.00pm throw in. On Monday next May 8th our U16 Boys are at home to Ballymote/ Bunninadden in the A League at 7.00pm. OUR next Club Lotto Draw takes place on Monday next May 8th at 8.30pm. Thank you to everyone for their continued support for this important fundraiser. OUR annual “Cash for Clobber” fundraiser coincides with the return of underage coaching. If anyone has old clothes and footwear that they don’t need the Club would be delighted to take these. Goods can be left at the Club rooms on any Saturday morning. UNDERAGE coaching continues this Saturday morning. Girls 10.00am to 11.00am and Boys 11.15am to 12.15pm. Registration must close shortly. This was a very good team performance all round with a much needed win. Next game is Monday 8th away to St Molaise Gaels.

ST MARY’S

IT was a relatively quiet playing week for the club but the team of the week has to be the Men’s Junior side who after a number of unsuccessful outings recorded their first win of the season when they played away to Easkey with an impressive 3- 10 to defeat Easkey’s 2- 06. It was a very enjoyable game to play and watch. Training continues this week and let’s build our momentum. The U12 boys welcomed Shamrock Gaels to Kent Park last Tuesday night. In our Division 1 game an early first quarter lead was enhanced with a splendid 2nd quarter performance where we built up a decisive lead primarily through Shea O Neills accuracy. A very even 2nd half gave us a flattering 18 scores to 9 victory. Our younger Division 3 team built up an early lead which they never relinquished in an all round excellent team performance to win 19 points to 11. Both teams are representing the Club with pride and the type of football that bodes well for the future. The other Bord na nÓg match took place at minor level on Friday evening when Kent Park witnessed a very close game between our guys and Coolera. Unfortunately, bragging rights went to our neighbours when they came out the right side of the minimum victory on a score of 1- 08 to 2- 06. Next up this Thursday is a match against Calry. The U14 boys sides play on Friday in Kent Park when the Division 1 team play Owenmore Gaels and the Division 3 side Castleconnor. No ladies match was scheduled for last week and this coming week the U14 girls will take the long journey to Tourlestrane for their second league match. In the recent past we have struggled to get the better of this fixture, but there have been some epic matches, none more so that last year’s league semi- final which we won and the Championship final when we were edged out in extra time. Best wishes to the Sligo County side from all in St Marys when they travel to New York next weekend for the preliminary round of the Championship. Last Sunday saw the annual athletics day for our Community Games in St Marys. Well done to every participant and good luck to all those who will represent the Area at the County Games. It is always a great day in the Club and again we are thankful to the many people who get involved. A further note of gratitude from the organisers of the cakesale to all who provided cakes and buns and to those who purchased and provided funds to the Club.
