Hundreds take part in Community Games

IT Sligo played host to a bumper weekend of athletics action at the weekend with the finals of the Sligo Community Games.

There were two busy days on Saturday and Sunday as the competition saw some top- class athletes in action.

The Sligo Community Games is proudly sponsored by the Sligo Champion and organisers said they were thrilled to see so many taking part over the course of the weekend’s finals. All of the various areas, a large 28 in total, proudly donned their colours for the Opening Parade on Saturday.

With a proper carnival feel ahead of the competitions, it was west Sligo’s Easkey who came out as the overall winners with the young children showing their delight at being selected.

The track at IT Sligo, which has been in busy use all summer, was ideal for the athletics finals with some brilliant performances as well as good results in the relays.

All of the winners now progress to the National Finals in Abbotstown in August with athletes already training for that competition.

Organisers thanked all of the athletes, coaches and parents who assisted during the finals and wished those who qualified for Abbotstown the best of luck.

All of the winners were presented with special medals after the races in honour of their achievements.
