Centre for Independen­t living benefits from fund

MEMBERS of the Sligo Branch of the Centre for Independen­t Living gathered at Tesco supermarke­t last Wednesday for the launch of the Tesco Community Fund.

The latest round of the Tesco Blue Token fund was launched last week and will see community projects benefit from much needed cash donated by the retail giant.

A spokespers­on for Sligo Centre for Independen­t Living Maria Pereira said: “Sligo Centre for Independen­t Living are the recipients of the Tesco Blue Token fund for the next seven weeks.

“We held this gathering in order for people to know who we were. It’s an opportunit­y for us to meet Tesco customers and introduce ourselves.”

For the next two months, customers are being encouraged to use their blue tokens in store to vote for their preferred local cause enabling them to make a big difference in communitie­s’ right across Ireland.

At the end of the eight week cycle, Tesco stores will support these 450 local projects nationally with € 120,000 worth of donations through the Community Fund.

The Community Fund helps a wide variety of local projects, supporting communitie­s throughout Ireland by helping causes to reach their potential. Since being launched in 2014, Tesco through the Community Fund has helped over 9,000 local causes and projects. donating over € 2.2 million in total.

In Sligo the Tesco Community Fund has supported 63 local projects to date donating over € 21,000. For the next eight weeks customers in Tesco’s Sligo store will using their blue token to support Sligo Baroque Music Festival, MCR Football Club and the Sligo Centre for Independen­t Living.
