Rowing Club regatta is taking place this July with bumper calendar in store

-

ROWERS are preparing for this summer’s popular regatta hosted by Sligo Rowing Club which is taking place on Saturday, July 29th.

Rory Clarke, Sligo Rowing Club Chairman, said it’s gearing up to be another brilliant event. He said: “This regatta is primarily targeted at the Masters category.

“Races for the Junior crews of visiting clubs will also be happily accommodated over the 800 metre 3 lane straight course on the Garavogue River at Doorly Park.

“A similar pilot invitational regatta event was held two years ago and the visiting Masters VIII’s of Athlone, Commercial and Old Collegians all enjoyed their racing and indeed rowing out on Lough Gill ahead of attending the World’s Masters Regatta.

“If competitors intend prolonging their stay and making a rowing weekend of it training facilities will be made available including club safety launches.

“Accommodation will be available at the nearby Riverside Hotel who are supporters of the club and where refreshments and live music will also be available after the regatta,” Rory explained.

The regatta date is on the Rowing Ireland website and further regatta information will shortly be posted. Entry fees will be the usual nominal charge.

“We hope to see you in Doorly Park in July,” Rory added.
