St Farnan’s dominate in Benson Cup meeting with hosts Bunninadden
BUNNINADDEN 1- 8 ST FARNAN’S 4- 13
THIS Benson Cup game was played in ideal conditions in Bunninadden on Sunday.
The home side played with the breeze in the first half and full forward Vinnie Frizell was first off the mark with a point from a free.
Michael Gormley added a second point. St. Farnan’s got their first score from a free taken by Eamonn Kilgannon after ten minutes of play.
This was the start of their dominance as by the time Bunninadden got their next score St. Farnan’s had scored 3- 3.
Two of the goals for the west Sligo side came from minor player Mark Devaney with the third from Tomas Ryan.
Bunninadden’s only goal came from Rory O’Dowd shortly before half time.
At the break the score read Bunninadden 1- 4 to St. Farnan’s 3- 6.
As in the first half the opening score came from a free by Vinnie Frizzell.
Mark Devaney got one back for St. Farnan’s before the number 9 for Bunninadden added his side’s second.
St. Farnan’s maintained their dominance and when Tomas Ryan sent a pass to Darren Hynes which resulted in a fourth goal the match as a contest was all but over as the score read 4- 8 to 1- 6.
Rory O’Dowd got another point but St. Farnan’s added five to their tally.
Vinnie Frizzell got the last score with a point from a free.
The game did lack the competitiveness of league or championship but nonetheless there were some good performances on both sides.
Bunninadden’s Vinnie Frizell got four points from frees and forward Rory O’Dowd got 1- 2 from play.
Goalie Daniel Cafferkey did well as did Michael Gormley ( 0- 1), Ross McManus, Niall O’Donnell and midfielder Adrian Frain.
St. Farnan’s had nine players on the scoreboard with Caolan Gillen having a very effective game in the half back line. The St Farnan’s team was S. Healy, P. Culkin, E. Kilgannon ( 0- 1), D. Hynes( 1- 0) F. Cawley, J. Hynes( 0- 1), M. Mulligan( 0- 6( 4f), C. Hallinan ( 0- 1), K. McGee, M. Lang( 0- 1), T. Ryan( 1- 0), E. Mc Dermott, R. Mc Coombe( 0- 2), M. Devaney( 2- 1).
