SHOW DAY
Manorhamilton major annual visitor event, namely the Show Day takes place on this Saturday, July 22, in the Bee Park, which will open at 9 a.m. to admit exhibitors. All exhibits will be on display from 10 a.m. in the Bee Park when judging commences. The afternoon field events will get under way at 1 p.m. and the judging of the Show’s pet section takes place at 2 p.m. while the tug-of-war teams start pulling at 3.30 p.m.
The show will have prizes on offer for the Best Dressed Lady, the Most Appropriate Dressed Man, the Young Farmer and Farmerette. Among the Show’s other afternoon happenings of interest will be a Manor’s fittest teens contest, a chainsaw sculptor demo, a puppet show, a sheep sheering contest, a Show Country Markets display, novelty events, a penalty kick contest, children’s novelty events, sheep dog trials and much more.
AGE GAP CHOIR
A new North Leitrim Age Gap choir, which consists of primary school students and members of the community who are over 65 years of age, has recently assembled under the direction of RTÉ Concert Orchestra conductor David Brophy.
The meets every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon in the Ballagh Centre. The choir is still looking for male voices over 60 years old.
The new Age Gap choir gave its first ever public performance under the baton of David Brophy as the opening act of the Stoney Woods Festival concert in Kiltyclogher. It was received with rapturous applause by a packed Community Centre audience.
The Age Gap choir is involved in the making of a RTÉ television documentary with a similar Dublin choir. Tyrone Productions are recording and producing the RTÉ television documentary which will be broadcast before Christmas.
RAILWAY EXHIBITION
From Friday, August 25, till Saturday, September 2, the Manorhamilton and District Historical Society, in association with the Leitrim Sculpture Centre, will stage a 60th anniversary exhibition to mark the closing of the Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway (SL and NCR), which occurred on September 30, 1957.
As well as having a detrimental effect on the transport and travel needs of the people of East Sligo, North Leitrim, West Cavan and West Fermanagh, the closing of the SL and NCR had a huge impact on the commercial, economic and social lives of the people of Manorhamilton and its surrounds, as well as the whole area served by the railway over 77 years.
CANCER SUPPORT.
The Rossinver Outreach Cancer Support Group, which is facilitated by the Sligo Cancer Support Group will meet in the Ballagh Centre on Tuesday night, July 25, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
