Sensory room for Sligo hotel

A new Sensory Room - the first of its kind for an Irish hotel - has just been launched at the Clayton Hotel Sligo.

The facility is in the Kids Club area at the Club Vitae Leisure club. Multi-Sensory environmen­ts are used as a form of therapy and can assist with the developmen­t of social skills in children and adults with additional needs.

Marketing Manager Orla Seery said: “We are thrilled to be the first hotel in Ireland with a Sensory room.

“We feel it is important to offer facilities to cater for all our guests and ensure they have the most comfortabl­e and enjoyable stay.

“At the launch of the Sensory room last Wednesday we had great support from local and national organisati­ons and most importantl­y the children in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the sensory room.”

The Sensory room was designed by Mary Clarke along with our Kids Club team and maintenanc­e Staff.

The room offers children with additional needs a calm environmen­t away from the busy lifestyle of the hotel. The Sensory room gives children and their families a stress free, calm, stimulatin­g space to enjoy

he sensory rooms provide a positive effect on the senses.

Smell- The room contains different smells

Sight – The room is very colourful and contains moving lights, lava lamps and paintings.

Touch- The room contains a range of fabrics and soft toys for touch as well as different textures and sensory boards for touch.

The Sensory room also contains a ball pool with over 1,000 colourful soft balls.

Sound- Calming music is played in the background at all times

Movement– The room contains a number of objects which move and react to touch including plasma ball.
