JUNIOR Ladies through to Championship Final

THE junior ladies finished their championship group stage with a home win against St. Molaise Gaels on Sunday. After a slow start the girls settled into the game when Laura-Ann Laffey goaled from a penalty. This was followed by two points before Meadhbh Kenneally scored the first of her two goals to open up a sizeable lead. With Ruth Goodwin running from midfield, gaps opened up in the visitors’ defence and by half time Coolera-Strandhill led by 3-07 to 1-02. Three second-half points from Ciara Redmond, added to three more from Laura-Ann set the platform for a solid second period. Attracta Halloran was also on the score-sheet with a brace of points and Ciara Healy finished off a super team move with a well taken score, before Meadhbh Kenneally settled the tie with her second goal. In what was a very good team performance, there were some fine individual performances. In addition to Ruth Goodwin and Ciara Redmond in midfield, Jacqui Mulligan led the defence, well supported by Gráinne Redmond, Ellen Monaghan and Caoimhe O’ Sullivan. Laura-Ann Laffey caused endless problems for the Molaise Gaels defence, while Meadhbh Kenneally and Attracta Halloran were also very effective. The girls now go on to play the County Final on September 16th at 12.00 in Markievicz Pk. Team; Sarah Lindsay, Aislinn Doggett, Virginia Mulligan, Gráinne Redmond, Caoimhe O’ Sullivan, Jacqui Mulligan (0-01), Ellen Monaghan, Ruth Goodwin (0-02), Ciara Redmond (0-03), Jessica Halloran (Deborah Kelly), Laura-Ann Laffey (1-06), Attracta Halloran (0-02), Pamela Higgins (Ciara Healy (0-01)), Meadhbh Kenneally (2-01), Eimear McCallion.

Subs. used - Fionn Morrissey, Sean Callaghan, Sean Chambers, Shane Brenan, Luke Comerford. U10 Hurling

TRAINING continues on Saturday at 10.45 to 12 at Ransboro pitch for underage hurlers. The excitement is building for the young hurlers as they will be heading to Croke Park on Sunday to take in the Cork v Waterford All Ireland Semi Final. U14 Championship

A depleted under 14 panel took on St. Michael’s in Ransboro last Friday. While the boys started well and were in contention for much of the first half, their opponents were just too strong on the evening and built up a substantial lead heading in to half time. This was despite the best efforts of the defence, in particular Naoise Brennan, Ryan Young and Jamie Walsh, and some fantastic saves from Cathal Morahan in goals. The second half followed the same pattern with our boys starting well, putting some nice passing moves together. Central to this were Liam Gilligan and Ross Doherty in midfield, supported in the attack by Mark McDaniel and Donncha Beirne who ran tirelessly at the visitors defence. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, but they still have another chance to make the semi-finals. Team; Cathal Morahan, Jamie Kilfeather, Naoise Brennan, Tadhg Doggett, Ryan Young, Jamie Walsh, Ross Doherty, Liam Gilligan, Donncha Beirne, Mark McDaniel, Cathal Ballantine, Ben Byrne, Jakub Krajluski; subs; Oran Harte, Ben Cawley, Aaron Lindsay.

U16 Girls

THE under 16 girls got their championship campaign off to a winning start with a comprehensive victory over St. Nathy’s in Ransboro last Thursday. Dominating in all areas from the throw in, they ran up a very impressive 8-12 over the hour. Top scorers were Sarah McCormack with 4-04 and Amy Hampson who scored 2-05 proving that she is just as comfortable in front of goals as she is defending them. Others to score were Aislinn Doggett and Roisin Heneghan who both raised green flags, the remaining points coming from Eilis Burke (0-02) and Cliodhna O’ Sullivan (0-01). This was a great team performance from Sarah Lindsay in goals, who was very safe when called upon and whose kick-outs were very effective, to all the subs who contributed as much as everyone. Gráinne Redmond and Caoimhe O’ Sullivan led the defence, ably assisted by Holly Gilligan, Nadine Deering, Eimear Callaghan and Amy Deering. The midfield pair of Aislinn Doggett and Cliodhna O’ Sullivan impressed, as did Eva Schoen when introduced for the injured Aislinn. Up front, in addition to Amy Hampson and Sarah McCormack, there were good performances from Ellen Prior, Ruth Conlon-Oates, Eilis Burke and Roisin Heneghan. The girls’ next tie is an away match with CT Gaels on August 17th.
