GRASSROOTS
Good luck to all teams in championship action in the coming weeks.
Congratulations and best wishes to Siobhan McIntyre and Declan Davey who were married in Cloonacool church on Sunday last.
ST MARY’S
WELL done to our ladies team for becoming the first St Marys side to reach a Championship final this year when qualifying for the intermediate championship final after defeating CT Gaels in a match played in Tubbercurry last Sunday. It was not plain sailing in a keenly contested first half, but then our girls got momentum to pull away in the second half and end comprehensive winners. Their opponents on finals’ day in September will be Drumcliffe-Rosses Point. THERE was just the one Bord na nOg team in action during the week when our U14 lads took on Tourlestrane in the first round of the Championship. St Marys used home advantage to the fullest when posting an impressive victory by 9-11 to 2-07. Great start to the campaign from this squad of players. This week our two U12 teams have league semi final action, both games being played on Tuesday evening in Kent Park. The Division 1 side host Tubbercurry Cloonacool and the Division 3 side take on Eastern Harps. The other team in action this week is the Minor squad who travel to St Farnons in the Championship. Good luck to all the teams. IN Senior Football, St Marys play their opening match of the Championship against Eastern Harps. The match is being played on Sunday in Markievicz Park with a throw in at 6pm, and will be a good indicator of both teams’ fortunes for the Championship. Come out and support the lads in what promises to be a closely contested encounter.
TRAINING continues at all levels in preparation for the busy weeks of Championship football ahead.
DRUMCLIFFE/ROSSES POINT
A superb performance by our ladies footballers last Sunday morning in Tourlestrane, which included extra time drama, saw them win their intermediate championship semi-final by 3-11 to 2-9 and set up and county final meeting with St Mary’s next month. This was a performance of character and determination by the team, who outscored Tourlestrane by five points during the extra period. Tracey O’Boyle contributed 3-1. Sunday’s team was: Rachel Oates, Jayne McCormack, Aimee Oates, Shirley Nicholson (Capt), Lisa McLoughlin, Michelle McNamara, Avril Clancy (0-1), Denise Regan, Rachel Monaghan (0-5), Emily McCormack, Amanda Healy (02), Sinéad Regan, Róisín Healy, Laura Oates (0 -2), Tracy O’Boyle (3-1). Our congrats to the players and manager Mike Healy on reaching the county decider. The ladies final is fixed for September 16th at Markievicz Park.
NO such luck for the junior men’s footballers as their unbeaten run in the league was ended at the final hurdle last Sunday when they went down to Curry in the Division 4 decider at Kilcoyne Park on a final scoreline of 1-15 to 1-9. Despite 0-5 from Eoin Gaughan and 1-1 from Alan O’Dowd, Curry deserved their win on the day.
IT’S a big weekend ahead for our senior men’s footballers as they begin their Belfry senior football championship campaign against the holders Tourlestrane this Saturday evening in Markievicz Park at 7pm. We are in a three-team group along with Tourlestrane and Coolaney/Mullinabreena. We wish the players and manager Fergal O’Flaherty every success. The team would appreciate as much club support as possible on Saturday evening. IT was a good week for several of our underage girls teams. The U14 footballers made a winning start to the championship last Monday with a comprehensive win over Eastern Harps, while the Under 16s secured a 6-12 to 6-5 success away to St Farnan’s last Thursday. The girls U12 team play Coolera/Strandhill at Oxfield this Friday evening at 6:30pm. THE U14 boys footballers were beaten by Curry in their championship group match last Friday evening, and there was no joy either for the U16 boys on Saturday as they lost their opening championship match to Tourlestrane. OUR boys U12 football teams are involved in league semi-finals on Tuesday evening. The Division 1 team play Coolera/Strandhill in a Shield semi at Oxfield at 7pm, while the Division 3 team travel to Grange to play St Molaise Gaels in the cup semi-final. HARD luck to our own Jack McLoughlin and the Sligo minor footballers who made Ulster champions Derry go the distance at Ballybofey last Saturday before losing their All-Ireland minor quarter-final by a single point. OUR new minor hurling team put in a battling display against Naomh Eoin in the championship last week before going down on a final scoreline of 3-13 to 4-4.

ENNISCRONE/KILGLASS
INTERMEDIATE
OUR intermediate team clinched a first senior league title for the club since 2004 on Friday night courtesy of a 0-10 to 0-8 replay win over Ballymote in the Division Three league final. Once again, the team showed tremendous grit to dig out the result, having trailed 0-5 to 0-0 after the first 25 minutes. Thereafter the team hit their stride, and finished strongly to earn promotion back to Division Two. Congratulations and well done to manager Pat Darcy, selector Karl Finnerty and all the players on securing the title in memorable fashion in front of a large travelling support. WELL done to the Enniscrone-Kilglass/Easkey U-16s on getting their championship campaign off to an encouraging start with a 3-10 to 1-14 win over Ballymote/Bunninadden last Monday evening. This was an impressive display and gives the team a great chance of securing a semi-final spot, which will be confirmed if they overcome the challenge of St Molaise Gaels in the next round. Training continues this week. U-14

COUNTY scene COMMISERATIONS to Ciaran O’Dowd, Josh Ellis, Eoin Hallinan and the Sligo minor team on their agonising one-point loss to Derry in the All-Ireland quarter-final last weekend. Ciaran had a fine game at wing forward, while Josh was a second half substitute. Well done to the three lads on their efforts throughout the year. PRIDE of Place ENNISCRONE has been nominated for the pride of place awards, with judges visiting the area on Tuesday morning. We look forward to showcasing all that is good about our club and parish.
SHAMROCK GAELS
THE Ladies Junior team made their exit from the Championship losing out narrowly to Curry last Sunday. The Gaels dominated the first half, however this was not reflected on the scoreline at half time and we were only ahead by four points. In the second two quick goals from Curry gave them the upper hand but the Gaels never gave up and with late goals from Naomh Quinn and Simone Kelly, the Gales got back into the game drawing level in the last five minutes. Curry finished stronger and won by two points in the end on a scoreline of 3-8 to 2-9. The team was: Meabh McDermott, Aoife Morrisroe, Edel Lyons, Catherine Tuohy, Lisa Callaghan, Chloe McTiernan, Eilis O’Connor, Aoife Brennan, Siobhan Brennan, Erin Mullaney (0-3), Louise Merrick (0-1), Naomh Quinn (1-0), Roisin Kearns, Simone Kelly (capt) (1-3), Mairead Tuohy (0-1). Subs: Sonia McDermott, Aisling Boyd, Sheona Leydon, Fiona Baker, Aoife O’Connor. Thanks to all the Ladies and manager Gus Chapman for their efforts during the year. Despite not achieving success this year, the future looks bright for this team with many young players coming through to supplement the more experienced players.
