LIBRARY NEWS
The popular summer Stars Reading programme is continuing in your local library. It’s a free programme and open to all children. Each child who registers can join in the fun of reading lots of exciting books during the summer.
Fun rewards will be provided along the way. At the end of the programme, all children who have participated will be invited to attend our celebratory awards event. Those that have completed the six book challenge will have their names entered in a draw for the overall prize of a bike. So don’t miss out on the fun this summer – drop into your local library and join the summer Stars Reading Adventure. There is still a month to go, so start reading, keep reading, all summer long.
HERITAGE GROUP
The theme of this year’s National Heritage Week is Nature and people. The Dromahair Heritage Group is organising two events on Saturday, August 19. The first event, in keeping with the theme of Nature, is the opening and inaugural walk of the new eco-trail on the Demonstration stretch of the old SLNCR line. Meet opposite Club House at 11 a.m.
The focus of the afternoon’s event is on people. This will take place in the Depot from 2: 30 – five. Bring your neighbours and friends and share your memories over a cup of tea. Bring a cake and a copy of your mother’s recipe. Dress up in vintage fashion. Most importantly, bring your old photographs. These will be copied, with your permission, and handed straight back to you. Old photographs are priceless.
Both events are free. Donations welcome on the day towards the work of An Grúpa Oidhreachta (Heritage Group).
Wednesday, August 23, is Wild Child Day which is about encouraging children to get out and discover and experience nature. Dromahair Dev Ass/Tidy Towns in conjunction with Dromahair Anglers are organising an event on the river at 6 p.m. for children and adults, more details next week.
Just down the road Carraroe and District Regeneration Association invite you to a visit and lecture by Stefan Bergh on the CARNs on Cairns Hill Sligo on Tuesday, August 22, at 9.45 a.m.
They will meet at 9.45 a.m. at Sligo County Council Waterworks, Tonaphubble. The entire event will last max 2hours and you are advised to wear boots or wellingtons as the terrain is uneven and can be wet. Rain Gear is also advised depending on weather.
Stefan is an internationally recognised authority on the CARNs of County Sligo and has published on the subject.
