GAELIC STRONGHOLDS
Historian and archaeolgist, J.J. McDermott will give a very interesting talk on ‘Symbols of Rural Resistance; The Gaelic Strongholds of Late Medieval North County Leitrim’ in Manorhamilton’s Bee Park Community Centre on this Thursday night, August 10, at 8 p.m.
Explaining what the local historical aspects of his presentation will be, JJ McDermott states it is ‘a talk on the lordly strongholds of the dominant Gaelic Irish Clans, who inhabited North Leitrim during the fourteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth centuries, namely the O’Rourkes and Mac.
CLANCYS.
‘The talk will provide a glimpse of the Gaelic social, political and economic world that existed in the region prior to English governance taking hold in the seventeenth century. There will be a primary focus on the known castle or stronghold sites that once existed, or still exist in remnants, in the region, such as Castle Car, Newtown, Dromahair and Rosclogher.’
The Manorhamilton and District Historical Society is promoting J. J.’s talk and everyone is cordially invited to attend. North Leitrim has still many Mac.
Clancy (Clancy) and O’Rourke decendents.

PETS’ BLESSING
A Pet’s Blessing Ceremony Service takes place in Lurganboy Chapel of Ease on this Sunday, August 13, at 2 p.m. when Rev Brendan McCarthy will preside at his final service in the parish.
Everyone is welcome and if you like bring your living pet, toy pet or a photograph of pet/pets to the service. All dogs must be on leads at all times and all other animals must be under control. There was a big turnout at two years ago for the first ever Pet’s Blessing Ceremony in Lurganboy.
This is an opportunity of thanksgiving for all the wonderful, popular and beloved pets that people value dearly and for the pets, as well as their owners to receive a religious blessing as well.
Light refreshments will be served after the Lurganboy Chapel of Ease Service. Donations in aid of Leitrim Animal Welfare and Lurganboy Chapel of Ease will be gratefully received on the occasion.
