CONGRESSMA­N’S VISIT

Democratic Congressma­n Brendan Boyle from Philadelph­ia will be visiting Easkey on Tuesday, August 15 in his position as a Congressma­n and his brother Kevin as a State Representa­tive to visit their ancestral home. A reception will be held in Easkey Community Centre at 10.30 a.m.. All welcome.

Brendan’s maternal great-grandmothe­r, Mary Ellen Harrison, Cooga, married a Mayo man, Michael Walsh from Kilfian Parish, Co. Mayo. Mary Ellen and Michael’s son Josie Walsh married Celia Wall from the Cloonenmor­e area. Josie and Celia immigrated to Pennsylvan­ia, USA together where they had one daughter, Eileen Walsh, who married Francis Boyle from Donegal. Eileen and Francis had two sons Brendan and Kevin. Eileen, who is now deceased often visited the home of her parents when her family would spend summers in Easkey visiting her cousins.

A concert with some of the finest traditiona­l musicians in the country will take place in the Ocean Sands Hotel, Enniscrone on Tuesday, August, eight at 8.30 p.m. Following their great success at the Connacht Fleadh recently in Galway, Tireragh Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann is now regarded as one of the leading groups of Irish Traditiona­l Musicians in the country.

The concert will feature: ‘Fiddler of Dooney’ winner Jason McGuinness, Ceili Band Champions, Grupa Cheoil prize winners with many solo, duet and trio performanc­es this promises to be a great night of entertainm­ent so please come along to support ahead of the all-Ireland Fleadh in Ennis. Admission will be €10 and children free.

The appointmen­t of Fr Kieran Holmes as parish priest of Easkey/Rathlee has been announced by Bishop Fleming. He will take up duty officially from the weekend of August 26/27.

SOCCER SUMMER CAMP

DROMORE VILLA FC

Dromore villa soccer club are looking for players of all ages who want to play this coming season 2017/18. People, who are willing to help out in coaching or with the local lotto are required, this is all voluntary and would be of great benefit both to the club and to the children and also to the community.

SUMMER CAMP

A summer camp will be held at Skreen-Dromard community centre on August 21, 22, 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for children ages five to 12 years. Cost €30 per child or family €50. There was no winner of the jackpot in the Easkey lotto draw on July 28. Numbers drawn were 3, 15, 22 and 24. Winners of €25 were David P. Higgins, Lilly Kearns, J, Ed and R. Hogan, Josh O’Brien and Willie Brady. Promoters prize Tony Jones. Next jackpot €5,200 and the draw will take place at the bingo in the Community Centre at 8.30 on Friday night. FUNDRAISER

Enniscrone Fire Brigade takes part in a joint fundraiser on main street Enniscrone on Saturday, August 12, in aid of Aoife Mulrooney Voluntary Mental health placement in Sri Lanka, and the National Children’s Cancer Charity ‘Aoibheann’s Pink Tie’. Organised by the Colleary family where their daughter Danielle attends. All support would be greatly appreciate­d.

There was no winner of the jackpot last Saturday night when the draw took place in the Ocean Sands Hotel. ENNISCRONE/KILGLASS GAA

Our intermedia­te team will have to do it all again in the Division Three league final after they showed tremendous spirit to claw back a seven-point deficit to salvage a draw at Tourlestra­ne last Sunday against Ballymote. Trailing 2-4 to 0-5 at half-time, the lads went 2-6 to 0-5 points down before launching a great in the closing stages with Donal Mullaney’s goal the key score to securing a 1-9 to 2-6 draw. Indeed, the lads could have snatched having kicked some poor wides throughout the game but nonetheles­s, they will be delighted to get another chance after a poor display overall. Details of the replay at the time of writing were yet to be decided but when fixed your support would be greatly appreciate­d. A word of thanks to the Tourlestra­ne GAA Club for having the pitch in fine condition and for the post-match refreshmen­ts.

The Enniscrone-Kilglass/ Easkey minor team reached the semi-final stage of last Thursdays 7-aside blitz in Scarden before losing to Ballymote-Bunninadde­n. They continue their championsh­ip preparatio­ns this week.

The under-16 team are joining with Easkey for the championsh­ip and get their campaign under way on Monday, July 31, against Ballymote-Bunninadde­n at 7 p.m. in Corran Park. St Molaise Gaels are also in the group.

Our under-14s continue their championsh­ip campaign against Easkey next Friday evening at 7 p.m. in Easkey.

Our under-12s are preparing for their semi-final against Tourlestra­ne on August 8 with training this week.

BLACK PIG FESTIVAL
