Cloonacool local community rallies for Church make-over

-

The church of St. Michaels in Cloonacool in South Sligo is to have some much needed repair works carried out around the church grounds in the coming weeks and months.

Indeed work has already started in the last week, with the removal of some very tall trees that were in close proximity to the church buildings.

These were deemed to be a safety hazard during winter storms.

The hard working church finance committee led by its chairperson and popular local priest Fr. Dan O’ Mahony has carried out some much needed repairs to the sacristy in recent times.

The church has also been painted on the inside with new lighting installed some time ago.

A new organ and some much needed church furniture have been purchased recently also.

Of course all this costs money, and to address this problem a new renovation fund was opened up in the parish in May, giving all the people of the area the opportunity to make a weekly contribution to this fund.

So far the response has been most encouraging, the committee has said.

To date church concerts, clothes collections, table quizes, card games and donations have contributed greatly to building the fund.

To that end Fr. Dan and his committee members will have a stall at the old fair day in Tubbercurry on the 9 th August next (tomorrow) where a guess the weight of the animals competition will be held.

Also contributing to the fund, Swinford Drama Group will present their play titled The Two Loves Of Gabriel Foley an hilarious three-act comedy by playwright Jimmy Keary in Cloonacool Community Centre on Friday evening 25 th August at 8pm.

All support for both of these fundraising events will be greatly appreciated by Fr. Dan and the rest of the finance committee in the weeks ahead.
