Relief at school bus route decision
News that there will be no change to the School Bus Transport Service to St Attracta’s Community School for the coming year for the children from the Bunninadden/Killavil areas has been welcomed by Councillor Margaret Gormley.
“This is all the parents wanted from day one to retain the route and the service,” she said.
A full review of the scheme is to be carried out, but for the coming school year there is no change.
“I am now calling on the TD’s for the area and I thank them for their help to-date to ensure that this route and service is maintained into the future as this service is in existence for the children of these areas for over forty years,” she said.
Bus Eireann had planned changes to the school pick up route, which had caused many parents in the area much concern in recent months.
Several councillors, including Cllr Keith Henry and Dara Mulvey raised the matter at County Council level. Last week it was announced there will be no change for this year.
Minister John Halligan said in the Seanad recently: “Of course, there will be difficulties and there are routes that should be reviewed. Mention was made of a route that has not been reviewed for ten years. That is unacceptable. I have spoken to Bus Éireann consistently about reviewing routes. If a route changes or if a mountain area becomes overgrown and the road becomes impassable, that should be looked at.”
