The Sligo Champion

Brian brings photos to life

-

THE late writer Dermot Healy produced a literary journal known as Force 10 in Sligo.

Fellow local writer Brian Leydon edited a number of issues where prominence was given to the work of photographers. An exhibition of these photos will run as part of The Fierce Moon Festival in the Leitrim Sculpture Centre in Manorhamilton.

Former Sligo Champion editor Seamus Finn who sadly passed away last Friday was described as ‘a very good friend of Force 10.’ Brian Leydon explains: “Seamus always provided great historic photos from The Champion archive and his own personal photo collections. He gave a break to a promising young photographer at the time, Carl Brennan, whose work was published in Force 10 also.”

Of course Carl Brennan is still with The Sligo Champion today and his and other photos will be on display at this free exhibition for the duration of the festival.“These iconic images will be a great addition to the festival,” says Brian.

Director of the Glens Centre Susan McKay reminds people to support the festival and the centre: “People need to support it. We are encouraging people to come and experience what we have to offer. Manorhamilton is a tiny town in a beautiful and remote area which has two really strong artistic institutions, the Glens and the Sculpture Centre, both deliver the highest standards of arts and the highest standards of facilities for artists - as good as anywhere else in the country.”
