Macra events get underway

-

Coolaney Macra na Feirme has been around for several decades now with in excess of 100 people in the locality proud to say they were once a member of the group.

Similar to the school calendar, the Macra equivalent begins in September too. Last year saw Coolaney collect several awards at local and regional level. The club won Club of the County and was placed second in Club of the Region at a ceremony in Cavan. The club’s new Chairman Alan Anderson was also crowned

‘King of the North West’. Last years Chair, local Councillor Keith Henry says the club thrives on “keeping things fresh and getting involved in absolutely everything we can”.

Among the activities the club has taken part in and won titles in some are Indoor Soccer, Volleyball, Question Time, Bowling, Gaelic

Football, Drama, Stock Judging and Welding.

Macra is about more than just agricultural activities.

Secretary Grace Ward says: “We have a sports night every Friday in the Teeling Centre in Collooney. It’s a great way to meet up in the winter months and we help out in the community too with the Sligo Camino for example”.

Preparation for the coming year has already started and their first event takes place this coming Sunday the 10 th of September, this being their annual Car Treasure Hunt.

Joint PRO Emma Ward says: “It’s a day for all the family and people can find out about what we do throughout the year also, so everyone is welcome.”

Cars leave from Coolaney Community Centre on Sunday between 4 and 5pm and the route takes about an hour to complete. For anyone wishing to find out more about the club they can visit their Facebook page or contact any of the officers.
