The 2017 all-Ireland Fleadh is over and the South Sligo musicians did themselves proud. Sinéad Johnston got first place on the mandolin and third on the banjo in 12 to 15, Conor McDonagh got second on the flute under-12, Conan Marren got second on flute slow airs 15 to 18,

The under-12 trio; Aoife Johnston, Conor McDonagh and Ciara Lee took gold and the under-12 duet Aoife Johnston and Conor McDonagh took silver. This was a very impressive performance by our members and we are very proud of them. Great credit must go to our local tutors Michael Hurley and Teresa O’Grady, who do fantastic work teaching these young people and promoting traditional music in the area.

Congratulations to all the other competitors who competed and did’nt feature in the prize winners – your day will come. Classes commence on Monday, September 11. in Tubbercurry Resource Centre.

LOUGH TALT SHOOT

Tubbercurry Gun Club hosted the Lough Talt Clay Pigeon Shoot last week at the magnificent Mount Taffe valley near Lough Talt. Held in glorious sunshine, this is an event started in the early 1950s but had been dormant for the last 20 years. A new generation of shooting and wildlife preservation enthusiasts has rejuvenated the event in memory of the late Michael Rochford from Lough Talt. It is hoped to make this at least an annual event, such was the enjoyment held by all.

Results as follows. Confined and Novice Event for the Lundy Perpetual cup: First – Brendan Brett; second – Thomas Lundy; third – Shane Kennedy.

Sporting Event: First – Kim Parsons; second – Séamus Brett; third – Liam Cariss.
