Take a trip to the Solas Spa for a Biotec Facial

- BY JENNY MCCUDDEN

THERE is something special about going to a spa setting for a beauty treatment. Consider this one of the perks of enjoying a facial at the Solas Spa in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ballincar. The sheer choice of facials available is another.

I opted for the Elemis Biotec Facial. Within this category alone there are seven different types of Biotec Facials. After a discussion on my skin type – permanently exhausted and in dire need of some TLC – the therapist Ciara advised as to which would be the most suitable.

The subtle lighting and fragrant aroma of the Thermal Suite invites visitors to leave the world outside behind and settle in for some well deserved ‘me-time.’ The therapy rooms are each located off the Thermal Suite close to the ‘relaxation room.’

Before my facial began I had the chance to visit the relaxation room. There, I tried a piece of fruit and a herbal tea while stretched out in one of the round cushioned bamboo chairs. As big as beds, these chairs are the ultimate in comfort. This was the perfect start to the treatment.

The Biotec Facial uses a unique fusion of technology and touch. The facial uses the most up to date machine technologies but does not lose sight of the importance of hands on therapy during a facial. In fact it seamlessly intertwines both aspects of the modern day facial.

It also uses powerful plant active ingredients to work with the body’s natural bio-electrical field and enhance the skins ability to rejuvenate, resurface and radiate. Ciara advised me that for the best results on my skin she would combine the Dynamic Resurfacing Facial with the Firm and Life Facial. So there is a pick and mix element to the Elemis facial which would suit most clients.

Comfort is key to this treatment. At no stage did I feel like I was being prodded and poked. Some machine based facials are endured out of necessity for results. This ‘no pain, no gain’ attitude was not part of this facial. Despite the advancements in skin technologies, I believe a facial should still be above all, a relaxing experience. And during this facial I was able to drift off as Ciara worked her magic.

She started with a dynamic resurface facial wash, followed by the Ultrasonic Technology which removed all of my dead skin cells ( about six months worth!). She then used a microcurrent around my eyes – and area that is beginning to show my age – and explained that this particular device would re-educate the muscle. I’m all for re-educating the eye muscles, I told her.

Next it was time to enjoy the masks which she again combined using the hydra gel and the dynamic resurfacing gel masks on different parts of my face. Ciara employed light therapy technology at this point which she stressed would increase collagen and reduce redness.

On hearing this information, I asked if I could take the machine home with me! Of course, that was impossible, but I was thrilled to be leaving with the end results of my Biotec Facial – a fresh, smooth finish and a chilled out mind.
