New faces from near and far
There are plenty of new International students freshly arrived on IT Sligo campus. The 2017/18 intake includes record numbers (50) from Canada, as well as the first ever student(s) from Indonesia.
Both Berenger Isnarg and Emma Esnarg came from France to study Marketing in Sligo during their Erasmus year.
“It’s our first time in Ireland. I’m very excited. The country is beautiful,” said Berenger. “The people are great,” added Emma.
A group of Malaysian students have come all the way from Kuala Lumpur, or ‘KL’ as they call it.
“We’ ll be here for two years. We came here because they offer scholarships,” said Karalin Tan and her friend Ging, who will study architecture here. Other Malaysian students are studying Biomedical Science and English and Psychology.
Closer to home, Fiachra Breslin from Donegal came here to study Games Development. “It’s basically making computer games, doing all the programming and stuff like that. I just enjoy playing games so I thought why not find out what’s behind the scenes of actually making them,” he said.
“We just had induction and I got the tour one of the other days – it was actually really good. I was very impressed. I like it,” he said.
Conor Doherty from Mohill, Co.Leitrim is here to study Computing: “It’s still close to home. It seems good enough to me so far, looking forward to it,” he said. Four Social Care students were all impressed with Sligo thus far.
Heather Glancy from Castlebar chose IT Sligo because she “thought it was the best one” for Social Care and wasn’t too far from home. Erica Keane from Kinvara, Co.Galway said she “just loved the facilities” and thought the 4-Year course was “brilliant”. Emily Tevlin from Meath chose Sligo because it was “far enough away from home but close at the same time.”
Jade Quigley from Ballybofey, Co.Donegal said: “I loved the course at the Open Day so that’s why I’m here.”
