Men keep their health in check at fundraiser

- BYJENNY MCCUDDEN

Looking after your health is paramount particularly as you get older.

A group of well known Sligo businessmen are acutely aware of this fact. So much so that they have come together to help raise awareness about the issue.

Check Mate - is an exclusive men only event to be held at the Sligo Park Hotel this October 13th. The fundraising evening aims to raise much needed cash for the Coronary Care Unit at Sligo General Hospital. It will also encourage all those men attending to keep their health in check.

As organiser Gerry McManus explains: “Our first Men’s Health Event took place in 2015. This was very successful as well as great fun for a very worthy cause. 400 people attended.

“For our 2017 event, not only do we again plan to provide a great night’s entertainment, we want to raise the awareness of better men’s health while supporting Critical Care Services in our local hospital. None of us know when we might require these services and so our aim is to raise as much money as we can through this event.”

He says: “We are working in collaboration with the Friends of Sligo University Hospital. We hope to raise money for specialised equipment in the Intensive Care Unit and for the completion of upgrade works in the Coronary Care Unit.” The Critical Care Units in Sligo University Hospital (including both Intensive Care and Coronary Care) treat in excess of 700 patients per year. Plans for a fully revamped Coronary Care Unit are about to begin which will improve conditions for both cardiac patients and staff. Tickets for €65 are available from committee members Gerry 087 2560624, Tony 086 2400619 or Martin on 087 2567776.
