Music can change your life!
A CREATIVE IRELAND INITIATIVE AIMS TO FOSTER A LOVE OF MUSIC THROUGH FREE CLASSES IN LOCAL LIBRARIES
A new music teaching programme for Sligo had just been launched as part of the national arts initiative Creative Ireland.
Music Generation Sligo, in partnership with Sligo County Council Library Service presents ‘Autumn Notes’: a new music literacy class for parents and young people/children age 9 plus.
Over the course of 10 weeks participants will listen to a variety of music by a range of composers, gain an introduction to how to read and write musical notation, music technology, composition and much more.
The programme, delivered by professional music tutors and available free of charge to all participants, is designed to enable children, teenagers and their parents to discover music together.
Autumn Notes will take place in two Libraries, starting mid-September:
• Tubbercurry Community Library: Tuesdays, 5pm – 6pm (from Tues 19 Sept)
• Sligo Central Library: Thursdays, 4.15pm – 5.15pm (from Thurs 21 Sept)
Places are limited and advance booking is essential before 14 September 2017.
Announcing the initiative, Rhona McGrath, Co-ordinator of Music Generation Sligo said: “We are very excited to introduce this new programme in partnership with Sligo Libraries, made possible by the Creative Ireland/Sligo programme.
“We want to introduce more children and young people to reading and appreciating music, together with their parents. Hopefully it will spark an interest in joining a choir or a music group as well as attending concerts and music events.”
