ST. FARNAN’S BUNNINADDEN 1-13 2-06

THIS quarter final of the intermediate championship was played under lights on Saturday last. Conditions were good although damp underfoot. St. Farnan’s got off to a great start with a point each for the O’Connor brothers from play. Bunninadden had two chances to level but both shots were sent wide. Their first point came from Vinny Frizzell from a free. It was St. Farnan’s who dominated possession for the next period. Some great passing and vision from Patrick O’Connor helped matters. Ciaran O’Connor added a point, and a pass from James Hynes to Keith Lang resulted in the first goal of the game. Another point from Ciaran O’Connor gave Farnan’s a 1-4 to 0-1 lead. Frizell got a second point from a free. Following a point from Shane Neary for St. Farnan’s it was Frizzell who gave Bunninadden the lead scoring a point off a 45’ followed by a goal and a second goal from a penalty. St. Farnan’s didn’t panic and points from a free by Ciaran and one from play from Finnian Cawley meant that they led by one point at half time 1-7 to 2-3.

After the break it was Bunninadden who got the better start with a point each from Vinny Frizzell and Ross Mc Manus. St. Farnan’s had the biggest share of possession for the remainder of the game and in the end were deserving winners. Subs Niall Crean and Greg Feeney were replacements for Shane Neary and Keith Lang. To make matters worse Bunninadden’s Tom Perry was given a straight red card.

St. Farnan’s will be pleased with this victory and with the performances of the young players James Weir, Mark Devaney and sub Kevin Mc Gee. Overall the team worked well but the number of wides will be of concern as they face into a semi final. Bunninadden’s Vinny Frizzell was his sides top scorer with 2-4. The midfield pair did well as did goalie Daniel Cafferky.
