ST MARY’S

OUR U10 girls travelled to Ballisodare last Tuesday, and put on an impressive display against strong opposition from our hosts. Every girl showed the type of enthusiasm that bodes well for the future and showcased the skills they have worked so hard on all season. The skills on show, coupled with the girls’ determination and work rate bodes well for the future. Our talented squad for the evening was, Chloe Kenny, Deanna Mulanney, Saoirse McNally, Daniella Durkin, Saoirse Darcy, Emily O Toole, Orlaith Scanlon, Caoimhe Morgan, Caoimhe Duffy, Leah Meehan, Eva Gerrity, Madison Rooney, Jessica O Connor, Sienna Kelly, Ella Niland and Anna Breheny. The girls are in action again this Tuesday when they welcome St Johns to Kent Park with a throw in at 6:45. Training continues on Saturday mornings. The U16 Girls joined their U14 counterparts in reach- ing the A Championship final. In another impressive display, our team defeated St Farnan’s on a scoreline of 9-10 to 4-07. After an uneven first half, the Mary’s girls tightened in defence and provided a strong platform for the forward line to put the match beyond the Farnan’s girls. Their opposition in the final will be Tourlestrane, and a fantastic match is in the offing as these 2 teams have developed a healthy rivalry over the years and have had a series of close encounters. The flags are up and Markievicz Park is the destination this coming Saturday for the Sligo Ladies Intermediate football final between St Mary’s and Drumcliffe/ Rosses Point. Throw-in is at 2pm and this year the game will be streamed on the Sligo Ladies Youtube channel. Our girls have had a brilliant and impressive run to the final, particularly given the need to introduce so many new players over the season. Best wishes to everyone and come to support our girls in this important contest. The U14 boys unfortunately came out second best to St Molaise Gaels in the A Championship final last Thursday in a wet Markievicz Park. It was an entertaining contest with little to separate the teams. Despite going in 2 points down at half time after playing against the wind, our boys just couldn’t push on and instead after a Conor White goal gave us the lead, Molaise grabbed the initiative and kept the scoreboard turning over with some impressive point taking. Disappointment all round but on the night Molaise were the better side as shown in the final score of 3-16 to 4-05. This Monday the U16 boys take on Drumcliffe Rosse Point in a Championship play-off, which takes place in Scarden at 6-45pm. The guys have been steadily improving throughout the season and had their best performance of the year last time out against Tourlestrane. Building on that performance will give them every chance of progressing. In Men’s football, the Junior side were unable to handle a very strong Ballymote side and lost their Championship game. It was better news for the Senior side who had an impressive victory over Curry and can look forward with confidence to the remainder of the Championship. Marys did not have it all their own way in the match and the final score was 14 points to 8. Next weekend the focus will be on the All Ireland between Dublin and Mayo and St Marys ticket draw for the match will be held this Thursday evening in the Clubhouse. We extend sympathy to the family and friends of Donal Healy who passed away last week after illness. Donal was hugely respected and popular within the Club over his many years of Membership and may he rest in peace. Sympathy is also extended to the Finn family in Ballinode on their loss of Seamus.
