Calry 3 Mile Run success

THE eighth annual Calry Parish 3 Mile Run and Walk was held on Saturday. It was a very successful day, proving a very popular event. Despite other events taking place elsewhere, there were 58 entrants for the 3 mile event. Juvenile races, ranging in the age from three up to eleven took place at 2pm, with 23 children taking part in separate races up The Mall to finish inside the Sligo Grammar School carpark. Well done to Garry Gallagher from North Sligo Athletic Club who won the 3 Mile race in a time of 00:17:32. The record for this course stands at 00:15:48 from 2014’s winner Richard Gorman. Second place finisher was 1st Junior Male, Aaron Brennan from Corran Athletic Club in a time of 00:18:03. Barry Clavin from Corran Athletic Club finished in third place and was 2nd Junior Male in a time of 00:18:15. Keith Raymond was 1st Senior Male, finishing in 4th place in a time of 00:18:25. Eimear Joyce, a Junior Girl from Sligo Athletic Club was first lady overall in a time of 00:20:50. She was followed by Noreen Joyce from Sligo Athletic Club who was second lady overall and 1st Female Over 40 in a time of 00:21:54 and Fiona Lenehan from North Sligo Athletic Club was third lady overall and 2nd Female Over 40 in a time of 00:22:45. Eilis Leady was 1st Senior Lady, finishing fourth lady overall in a time of 00:23:00. Congratula­tions to everyone who won prizes in this event and to everyone who participat­ed. All the trophies were sponsored by Leslie Bagnall, Cordners, Sligo. All the medals for the children’s races were sponsored by Martin Reilly Motors. There were numerous spot prizes which were sponsored by various local businesses in Sligo. All the proceeds from this event were in aid of Calry Parish Church and the Diocese of Kindu Dr Congo. There was a great team of marshals on the day and thanks to all the caterers who helped make the wonderful cups of tea/ coffee and excellent tray bakes.
